Bitcoin Price Today: BTC Holds Near $81K as Fed Rate Cut Odds Climb

Bitcoin price today is trading around $80,885, up more than 4% in the past 24 hours. The rally has pushed BTC back above the key $81,000 zone for the first time in weeks.

The move comes after Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller said he could support holding interest rates at the Fed's next meeting. That comment gave risk assets, including bitcoin, a fresh boost on Thursday.

Traders are now watching whether this bitcoin price prediction of higher highs can hold as more economic data lands this week.

Why Is Bitcoin Price Going Up Today?

Bitcoin surged from overnight lows below $77,000 to briefly touch nearly $82,200. That is its highest level since May.

The jump followed weaker U.S. labor data. Jobless claims came in at 206,000, slightly above forecasts. ADP private payrolls showed only 38,000 jobs added, well below the 47,000 expected.

Weak jobs data usually raises hopes for a Fed rate cut. Lower rates tend to push investors toward riskier assets like bitcoin.

At the same time, the ISM Services Index came in at 55.4, ahead of the 54.3 forecast. That shows the services side of the economy is still growing even as hiring slows.

What Are the Odds of a Fed Rate Cut in September?

According to CME Group's FedWatch tool, traders now see roughly a 50% chance the Fed holds rates steady at its September 16, 2026 meeting. That is up from about 40% a day earlier.

Is Bitcoin's 27% Rally Driven by Leverage?

Data suggests this Bitcoin price forecast move is not built on leverage alone. Spot trading volume grew 153% during the breakout, compared with 109% for perpetual futures.

As per DefiLlama data, the spot-to-perpetual ratio also compressed from 6.02x to 4.97x. That means real buying, not just leveraged bets, is driving price higher.

Binance led the pack, adding roughly $2.63 billion in BTC balances during the move. That is nearly as much as the $3.05 billion that flowed into all U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs combined over the same stretch.

Binance alone accounted for close to 46% of tracked spot volume, averaging more than $10 billion in daily spot trading during the rally. Is Bitcoin 27% Rally Driven by Leverage

Which Whales and Exchanges Bought the Most Bitcoin?

On-chain data points to heavy buying from a mix of exchanges and large holders during the recent Bitcoin price push toward $82,000.

Is the Weekly Bitcoin Supertrend Signal Bullish?

Some chart watchers are also flagging the weekly Bitcoin Supertrend indicator, which has flipped to a green, bullish signal.

Historically, this signal has appeared near the start of past Bitcoin bull runs. The weekly candle has not fully closed yet, so traders are watching to see if the signal holds into the weekend.

This adds another layer to the current Bitcoin price prediction picture, alongside spot buying and ETF demand.

How Much Money Is Flowing Into Bitcoin ETFs?

Spot Bitcoin ETFs saw total net inflows of $731 million on September 3, according to SoSoValue data. BlackRock's IBIT fund led with $454 million of that total.

Positive ETF flows before the breakout suggest institutional demand is playing a role in this bitcoin price prediction setup, alongside exchange-level buying.

What Do the BTC/USD Charts Show Right Now?

The daily BTC/USD chart shows two patterns worth watching.

The first is a large descending channel that has capped Bitcoin's price for months. BTC is now testing the upper boundary near $82,000 to $84,000.

A daily or weekly close above this zone could shift the broader trend bullish, opening the door toward $86,000 to $90,000.

The second is a smaller descending channel, or bull flag, formed after bitcoin's sharp run from about $64,000 to $81,000.

BTC has broken above this smaller channel and is trading around $80,929, which favors more upside if the breakout holds.

Near-term resistance sits around $82,000 to $83,000, with a stronger break potentially extending toward $86,000 and then $90,000.

On the downside, if BTC falls back below roughly $78,000 to $75,800, the bull flag setup would weaken. That could open a deeper pullback toward $72,500 to $70,000.

Is the Bitcoin Bear Market Over?

Not everyone agrees the worst is behind Bitcoin. Fidelity noted that despite a strong August rally, it remains unclear whether the bear market has fully ended.

Some investors are watching for a possible cycle bottom around November 2026, based on the four-year bitcoin cycle theory. Fidelity pointed to factors like monetary policy, regulation, and institutional adoption as potential catalysts going forward.Fidelity noted that despite a strong August rally

What Is the CLARITY Act and Why Does It Matter for Bitcoin?

Regulatory news is also shaping bitcoin news today. The CLARITY Act is expected to face a Senate procedural vote around September 15.

This vote would not mean final passage. It would only show whether lawmakers are willing to move the bill forward toward a federal crypto market structure.

Supporters argue clearer rules could reduce uncertainty for exchanges and institutions, encouraging more investment. The SEC's proposed Regulation Crypto Assets also remains in its public comment period.

Bitcoin Liquidations and Trader Positioning

Derivatives data shows a long/short ratio of 1.058 over the past 24 hours. Both Binance and OKX show more long accounts than short accounts.

However, liquidation data tells a different story. Over the past 24 hours, long positions were liquidated for $250.95 million, compared with just $19.35 million in short liquidations.

This suggests that traders betting on higher prices with heavy leverage got caught out during recent volatility, even though the overall price trend moved higher.

Key Takeaways for Bitcoin Price Today

Bitcoin price today sits near $80,885, supported by softer labor data, rising Fed rate cut hopes, and strong spot buying from major exchanges.

Chart levels point to $82,000 to $84,000 as the zone to watch. A clean break higher could support a Bitcoin price prediction toward $90,000, while a drop below $75,800 would put that outlook at risk.

Regulatory developments around the CLARITY Act and continued ETF inflows remain important background factors for BTC price action into mid-September.
