SpaceX Stock Falls 4.11%: Shotwell Sale and SPCX Unlocks Add Pressure

SpaceX Stock slipped 4.11% to $148.36 on Wednesday. It was the sharpest selloff in nearly two months. SPCX is also down about 3% for the week, which puts a four-week winning streak at risk.

Two things hit at once. Up to 328 million shares became eligible for sale, and President Gwynne Shotwell filed to sell about $52 million worth. Meanwhile, Elon Musk's company still has Starship Flight 14 lined up for Monday, Sept. 28.

Why Is SpaceX Stock Down Today?

The drop came from supply worries. Up to 328 million shares turned tradable, and traders often sell when lock-ups end.

SpaceX sits in the $2 trillion club, so expectations are high.

The stock climbed above $150 in early August. This week, sellers pushed it back under that level.

Volume was about 60 million shares, below the 94 million average. The price is roughly 34% under its 52-week high.

Did Gwynne Shotwell Sell SpaceX Shares?

Shotwell filed a Form 144 to sell 342,170 shares. The filing lists a market value of about $51.96 million, or roughly $151.85 per share.

Morgan Stanley Smith Barney is the broker. The listed sale date is Sept. 22. She got the shares that day by exercising stock options and paying cash.

It is a small slice of the 7.70 billion shares outstanding. Still, the timing caught attention as the price slid.

SpaceX Stock Unlock Schedule: Reason Behind the Fall

About 319 million shares were expected to open up on Sept. 9. More releases are planned for September, October and December.

A SpaceX share unlock does not force anyone to sell. But if holders sell into strength, buyers may struggle to push the price higher.

When Is Starship Flight 14? Latest SPCX News and Crew-13 Update

SpaceX posted from Starbase that opportunistic full-stack testing is planned before launch. Starship Flight 14 is on track for Monday, Sept. 28, pending regulatory approval.

The flight will try the rocket's first orbital insertion. It will also deploy 26 operational Starlink V3 satellites.

Then comes NASA's Crew-13 mission, now targeted for Oct. 1. It was delayed after an oxidizer leak was found in the Crew Dragon spacecraft.

There is good news on the contract side. NASA added three future crew missions worth a combined $946 million.

Space Force work is growing too. One award is $4.16 billion for a space-based airborne target tracking layer. Another is $1.6 billion for 18 Falcon 9 launches, and a third is $2.29 billion for the Space Data Network Backbone.

Together, that is about $8.05 billion in potential value, which is not the same as future earnings.

Details also emerged of an agreement giving the company access to sensitive Space Force tracking data.

On Aug. 30, a Falcon Heavy launched NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, a mission worth about $4 billion.

Grok reportedly reached about 418,000 weekly users as of Sept. 14. Heavy AI spending remains a concern for some investors.

Nobody can promise which way it goes.

What Do Analysts Say About the SPCX Stock Price Target?

Pivotal Research started coverage with a Buy rating and a $220 target. The average analyst target is reported near $226, about 52% above the current price.

Morgan Stanley kept its Overweight rating. It also said SpaceX has limited access to mid-band spectrum in urban areas. That means a possible deal with big wireless carriers could still be years away.

SpaceX Stock News: What Happens After Flight 14?

The next few days look busy. Traders will watch the $150 level, the Flight 14 approval, and any new share sales.

Starship must also prove it can launch often and reliably. Elon Musk has said SpaceX wants to lean less on Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy over time. That is still a big task.
