Wintermute, a leading global digital asset trading firm, has expanded its presence in the United States by registering its affiliate, Wintermute USA LLC, as a broker-dealer. This move enables the company to offer additional services within the US financial markets.

SEC and FINRA Registration

Wintermute USA LLC has completed registration with both the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). This dual registration marks a significant step for the company, as it now gains the official status necessary to offer a broader suite of financial products in the US.

With its new broker-dealer status, Wintermute USA can now trade stocks and stock options in addition to digital assets. The registration also allows the affiliate to serve as an authorized participant for exchange-traded products, including those linked to cryptocurrencies.

Wintermute anticipates that this strategic positioning will support its role in the emerging market for tokenized securities, which blend elements of traditional finance with blockchain technology.

Evgeny Gaevoy, founder and CEO of Wintermute, emphasized the company’s long-term vision for financial markets. Gaevoy stated that digital assets and traditional finance are developing in parallel, continually finding new points of integration.

Digital assets and traditional finance will continue to develop in parallel, intersect in new ways, and ultimately integrate more deeply. The firms that succeed will be those with the technical and operational expertise to compete in both arenas.

What is a Broker-Dealer?

A broker-dealer is a financial company authorized to buy and sell securities, such as stocks and bonds, for its clients and on its own behalf. This role is essential for providing liquidity and facilitating transactions in financial markets.

Additionally, as an authorized participant, a broker-dealer is permitted to play a crucial part in the creation and redemption of exchange-traded funds (ETFs). This function is particularly notable as the market for tokenized and digital asset-based ETFs expands.

Mini dictionary: FINRA, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, is a self-regulatory organization overseeing broker-dealers in the US, ensuring market integrity and investor protection.

Strategic Focus on Tokenization

Wintermute views tokenized securities as a key area of growth. These securities use blockchain technology to represent traditional financial assets such as stocks or bonds, offering faster settlements and increased transparency.

The registration is designed to place Wintermute at the forefront of this evolving market, reflecting the firm’s belief that the boundaries between digital assets and traditional securities will continue to blur.

Our long-term conviction has always been that digital asset markets will evolve in more than one direction.

Wintermute, established in 2017, has grown into one of the leading global liquidity providers in the digital asset space, serving exchanges, projects, and institutional clients.
