  • World unveiled “World ID for Banking and Finance” on October 18, 2026, a suite built on three cryptographic proofs: Proof of Human, Proof of Presence and Proof of Attributes
  • Design partners for the new suite include Bain Capital, OpenExchange, Outtake, Pantera Capital and VanEck Funds
  • World ID is now live in more than 150 countries, with over 18 million people already holding a Proof of Human

World, the digital identity project co-founded by Sam Altman, announced a new product suite called “World ID for Banking and Finance” on October 18, 2026, aimed squarely at helping banks and fintech companies confirm that a real human, not an AI system or a deepfake, is behind a given account action. The announcement came as part of a broader push by World to pitch its identity infrastructure to the financial sector at Money20/20 in Las Vegas.

The suite combines three separate cryptographic proofs that together build a layered picture of a user’s identity and presence. Proof of Human confirms a one-time verification carried out at an Orb, the iris-scanning hardware device World operates, which the company says it has now also installed at the New York Stock Exchange. Proof of Presence adds a phone-based liveness and selfie check that confirms a specific session is genuinely happening in real time. Proof of Attributes layers on confirmation of specific facts, such as nationality or age, pulled from a government-issued credential, without requiring the user to hand over the underlying document or excess personal data beyond what is strictly needed.

World named several design partners that helped shape the new suite ahead of launch: Bain Capital, OpenExchange, Outtake, Pantera Capital and VanEck Funds. The company pointed to a specific set of use cases banks and fintechs could apply the suite to, including verifying a client’s identity when they open an account or visit a branch, confirming authorization before approving a wire or ACH transfer, and protecting account recovery flows from being hijacked through social engineering or impersonation.

World framed the launch against a backdrop of rising AI-enabled fraud, citing a widely reported case in which an employee at engineering firm Arup wired roughly $25.6 million in early 2024 after joining a video call where deepfaked executives instructed the transfer. The company also cited an estimate from Deloitte projecting that AI-enabled fraud losses in the United States could reach $40 billion by 2027, up sharply from about $12.3 billion in 2023, as the kind of trend its new banking suite is meant to help counter.

World said its identity system is now live in more than 150 countries, with over 18 million people already holding a Proof of Human credential through an Orb verification, giving it a meaningful existing user base to point to as it pitches banks and fintechs on adopting the new suite. The announcement, published on World’s own blog, did not disclose pricing or name any specific bank that has committed to integrating the new suite into its own account-opening or fraud-prevention systems.
