Crypto commentator Xaif (@Xaif_Crypto) shared a video from inside the White House today that caught the attention of the XRP and crypto community.

In the clip, President Donald Trump personally introduced Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse during the August 19 crypto summit. Trump thanked Garlinghouse following the introduction.

How the Community Responded

Several community members weighed in on the moment. One commenter suggested that the CEO was hiding in the room, as he did not step forward when called upon. She found this move funny. Another member celebrated the occurrence, expressing pride in seeing Garlinghouse present at this level of government engagement.

Another commenter thanked President Trump, and another suggested that XRP would go to the moon. However, not everyone was positive. One observer remarked that Garlinghouse did not step forward to speak when given the opportunity. He viewed this as a concern about what the summit would actually deliver for XRP holders.

The Summit and its Stakes for XRP

The presidential introduction is more than a symbolic gesture. Garlinghouse sits in the room alongside SEC Chair Paul Atkins, CFTC Chair Michael Selig, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. Traditional finance giants including Nasdaq, NYSE, CME, and DTCC also have representatives present.

The summit serves as the kickoff for the CFTC’s newly formed Innovation Advisory Committee, a 35-member panel that includes Ripple, Coinbase, a16z, Chainlink, and Kalshi. The committee holds its first public session tomorrow, August 20, from 1 to 4 PM ET, with an agenda centered on crypto’s regulatory evolution.

The CLARITY Act looms in the background. The bill stalled ahead of the August recess over disputes around stablecoin yield rules, congressional ethics provisions, and anti-money-laundering requirements. A procedural Senate vote is now scheduled for September 15, and passage requires 60 votes.

Looking Ahead

The SEC proposed new crypto fundraising rules on August 18, including a $75 million annual exemption. It has worked with the CFTC to advance crypto regulation. With both agency chiefs in the room today, the administration signals it can advance crypto policy through agency action, with or without congressional movement.

Garlinghouse has attended every major White House crypto engagement under this administration, from the pre-inauguration dinner in 2025 to the signing of the GENIUS Act. Today’s introduction by the president adds another chapter to that record. The outcome of this summit will shape digital asset policy through the end of 2026.
