J. Ayo Akinyele, head of engineering at RippleX, noted an uptick in the adoption of automated payments within the XRP Ledger. In early October, agentic transactions reportedly made up roughly a quarter of all activity on the network during a given period.
Back in July, XRPL’s AI payments totaled just over one million transactions. By early September, nearly four million agentic transactions had been recorded, reflecting accelerating use by automated software agents.
Agentic payments, enabled by the x402 protocol, let autonomous software purchase digital services like API access, computing resources, or AI inference. These systems pay using either XRP, a native cryptocurrency, or RLUSD, a ripple-anchored stablecoin.
The x402 protocol first brought automated payment capabilities to blockchain-based software agents, eliminating the need for manual confirmation for each transaction.

Despite the impressive surge in transactions, settled value through the XRPL AI Hub paints a different picture. Around the October milestone, total cumulative settlements reached only 6,982 XRP and 12,010 RLUSD.
Compared with 13.49 million transactions, these figures suggest most payments are for very small amounts, indicating activity focused on microtransactions rather than significant commercial transfers.
The data does not clarify whether these payments involve independent customers or mostly represent automated, recurring transactions between systems. As such, high transaction numbers alone do not confirm broad commercial adoption.

The kit offers wallet integration tools and supports both XRP and RLUSD for settlements, giving developers flexibility in how digital services are paid for.
Coinpaper, a digital asset publication, explained that RLUSD provides price stability for digital service transactions, while XRP natively powers value transfers on the network and settles transaction fees.
