Crypto researcher SMQKE tweeted about the XRP Ledger’s 3.3.0 upgrade and its new features for institutional transactions. He linked the upgrade to the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation’s (DTCC) tokenization working group and Ripple’s broader institutional initiatives.
SMQKE wrote, “THE XRPL IS UPGRADING TO PREPARE FOR THE DTCC’S TOKENIZATION WORKING GROUP.” He then pointed to the XRP Ledger’s new privacy functionality and described it as an important development for institutional users.
The attached document SMQKE identifies XRPL 3.3.0 as a “major institutional upgrade package.” The August 2026 release introduced privacy features, batch transaction support, sponsored fees, and additional security measures.
SMQKE focused on the privacy component in particular. He quoted the report, which states that “For the FIRST TIME, XRPL supports confidential transaction metadata that allows institutional participants to transact WITHOUT exposing counterparty or amount information to all ledger observers…”
Privacy Features Support Institutional Transactions
The new functionality gives institutional participants greater control over transaction information. Instead of exposing counterparty and amount details to every ledger observer, the feature allows institutions to keep certain transaction metadata confidential.
SMQKE described the development directly, writing, “Institutional privacy features are coming to the XRPL.”
He also connected the upgrade to several institutional initiatives involving Ripple. SMQKE quoted the attached report as saying the privacy feature was “EXPLICITLY designed for the compliance-sensitive institutional settlement use cases that Ripple has been building toward with Kyobo Life, Kbank, the Mastercard pilot, and the DTCC working group participation…”
This connection places the XRPL upgrade within a broader institutional settlement context. The cited report identifies privacy as one of the requirements that institutions can consider when evaluating blockchain infrastructure for regulated financial activity.
XRPL 3.3.0 also introduces batch transaction support. The feature lets users execute multiple operations through a single ledger submission. Institutions can use this functionality to simplify settlement processes that require several related actions.
Sponsored fees address another institutional application requirement. Institutions can pay transaction fees on behalf of their clients. This removes the need for those clients to hold XRP to interact with the ledger.
The underlying protocol still uses XRP to pay transaction fees. However, sponsored fees allow institutions to manage those costs for their clients and provide an experience that doesn’t require every end user to hold XRP directly.
SMQKE’s post therefore connects XRPL 3.3.0’s privacy functionality with the DTCC tokenization working group and Ripple’s institutional initiatives. The attached report provides the technical details behind that connection, including confidential transaction metadata, batch processing, and sponsored fees.
