XRP Ledger, the decentralized blockchain network supporting the XRP cryptocurrency, has seen its payment volume drop sharply after briefly surging in early August. Recent data shows that daily payment volume spiked above 614 million XRP on August 7 before retreating by nearly 90% over the following two days.

Erratic payment volumes and network normalization

The payment activity on XRP Ledger has exhibited significant volatility in recent weeks. Throughout the past month, sporadic surges in transaction volume have been followed by rapid returns to normal levels. While August experienced another extraordinary spike, analysts note that these increases did not lead to sustained higher activity on the network.

Rather than indicating a permanent decline in user demand, the current fall mainly represents a return to normal levels following an abnormal peak. Experts highlight that for any downward trend to raise concern about a structural decrease in XRP Ledger’s network usage, consistently low payment volumes must persist over a longer period.

Recent reductions in payment volume reflect a normalization after an isolated spike, rather than a sustained collapse in network activity. The contraction does not yet signal a broad decline in established transaction demand.

The price of XRP continues to face downward pressure. At present, XRP trades at approximately $1.036, remaining below all key moving averages as shown on daily price charts. Major moving averages, which investors often watch to gauge longer-term trends, are positioned higher, around $1.185 and $1.377.

Short-term resistance for XRP is found between $1.075 and $1.087, with sellers maintaining an advantage as long as prices remain beneath these resistance zones. Despite several attempts to regain strength, XRP has been unable to sustain a breakout above $1.05 to $1.10, establishing a series of lower highs over recent sessions.

Technical indicators reveal modest momentum, with the Relative Strength Index (RSI) hovering around 40. This suggests that while XRP is under pressure, the market is not yet entering oversold territory—a condition that typically precedes strong buying interest.

Consolidation and outlook for XRP

With sellers still driving the price action, the primary support level for XRP currently sits at $1.00. A sustained hold above this mark could allow the token to consolidate, potentially setting the stage for a future attempt to recover toward $1.08 or $1.10.

If XRP loses the $1.00 threshold, recent lows between $0.95 and $0.97 may act as the next line of defense. Despite the steep, short-term drop in payment volume, observers emphasize that the episodic nature of these spikes aligns with XRP Ledger’s typical network behavior. No evidence thus far suggests the recent decline marks a more serious threat to the underlying fundamentals of the ledger itself.

Mini dictionary: XRP Ledger is a decentralized, open-source blockchain designed for fast and low-cost digital asset transfers. It supports the XRP cryptocurrency and processes thousands of transactions per second, making it one of the longest-running blockchains in active operation.
