In Brief:

  • XRP Ledger’s fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment holds 81.25% validator support, with activation requiring sustained approval above 80% throughout the voting period.
  • The upgrade addresses PaymentBurn permission vulnerabilities, AMM clawback errors, invalid NFT offers, and escrow reserve issues affecting XRPL transaction reliability.
  • Single Asset Vaults and the Lending Protocol receive precision, authorization, and asset freeze improvements designed to strengthen network security and functionality.

The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is preparing to introduce a series of protocol improvements through the fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment, which could activate on October 23, 2026. According to XRPScan data, the amendment entered its two-week activation window on October 5, with its earliest scheduled activation at 9:34 AM UTC on October 23.

The upgrade addresses technical issues affecting several XRPL features, including Single Asset Vaults, the Lending Protocol, Automated Market Makers (AMMs), NFTs, escrow transactions, and permission delegation.

XRPL Amendment Secures 81.25% Validator Support

The fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment has secured 81.25% validator support, with 26 of 32 validators voting in favor. Activation requires support to remain above 80% throughout the required two-week period.

If validator approval falls to 80% or lower, the activation countdown resets, delaying implementation until the amendment completes another qualifying period. Initially introduced in xrpld version 3.4.0, the amendment entered voting on September 17, 2026, bringing together multiple technical corrections designed to improve network functionality.

One important improvement concerns the recently activated Permission Delegation feature, which allows account holders to assign specific transaction permissions to other accounts.

The amendment addresses an issue involving PaymentBurn permissions, where delegated accounts could potentially mint fungible tokens under certain conditions. Other granular permissions remain unaffected.

Major Fixes Target AMMs, NFTs, and Escrow Transactions

Beyond permission delegation, the amendment introduces corrections across several XRPL transaction types, including AMM clawback operations and NFT trading. For AMMs, the upgrade prevents certain clawback transactions from burning liquidity provider tokens without recovering assets because of rounding errors.

It also adjusts reserve requirements to prevent compliance-related clawbacks from failing when paired asset holdings require automatic creation. Meanwhile, NFT improvements reject invalid XRP-denominated offers and correct restrictions affecting issuers operating under global freezes.

Escrow adjustments allow owner reserves to be recycled during EscrowCancel and EscrowFinish transactions, preventing unnecessary transaction failures.

Lending Protocol and Vault Improvements Strengthen XRPL Operations

The amendment additionally introduces precision improvements across VaultDeposit, VaultWithdraw, and VaultClawback operations to maintain accurate asset balances and share supplies.

Further changes refine authorization, credential verification, destination validation, and asset-freeze handling within Single Asset Vaults and the Lending Protocol.

These corrections are intended to improve transaction reliability across XRPL applications, although activation remains dependent on sustained validator approval through the required voting period.
