A brief technical hiccup on the XRP Ledger network has delayed the implementation of the fixCleanup3_4_0 update package to November. Validators experienced a roughly one-minute desynchronization, leading the network’s automated security mechanism to reset the two-week approval counter.
Approval Process Restarts
The process has completely restarted, with the update now slated to come into effect on November 4 at 14:46 UTC. The XRPL network requires at least 29 of 35 validators to provide uninterrupted support for 14 days for changes to be accepted. The automated voting audit is conducted every 15 minutes.
As the package neared its final stage, routine checks revealed some servers faced short-lived connection issues, temporarily reducing support to 26. The nodes quickly recovered, and the update now has backing from 31 of 35 participants.
The network’s stringent security protocols favor restarting the process over accepting code amid connection instability.
XRP Ledger functions as the open-source blockchain backbone for XRP ecosystem transactions. The strict rules governing changes ensure even brief disruptions during the consensus process are automatically filtered out.
What the Update Resolves
The postponed package is not an emergency response to any attack or breach. Developers are addressing potential weaknesses perceived in new protocols. Notably, they’re resolving an issue where an account with the PaymentBurn function could under rare conditions bypass code logic to initiate new asset issuance. This loophole has been completely sealed.
The package also increases rounding precision in investments for future native vaults and modifies the credit default logic so that overdue records only register after the actual deadline passes.
Mini glossary: Single Asset Vaults are on-chain vault structures operating with a single asset. AMM refers to automated market maker systems conducting trades via liquidity pools instead of order books.
On the coding front, issues like erroneous burning of LP tokens due to zero return balance in the AMM mechanism, and various bugs in NFT transactions and escrow accounts have been corrected. Thus, the update targets system reliability and future functionalities rather than daily network use.
The postponement of the update does not impact XRP holders’ balances, transaction speeds, or fees.
Market Impact Remained Minor
The brief disruption did not cause significant turmoil in the market. XRP’s price remained stable around $1.35. The text further mentioned Franklin Templeton’s ongoing accumulation of millions of XRP for its ETF clients, highlighting their stature as a major player in global asset management.
This scenario indicates that institutional investors perceive the delay as a procedural security measure. Although the network’s automatic rules prolong the update timeline, they safeguard the system’s prudent operational nature against short interruptions.
