A prominent validator in the XRP Ledger ecosystem, known as Vet, has voiced disagreements with the prevalent notion that XRPL’s growth is unrelated to the XRP token itself. Vet argues that while an increase in tokenization or institutional integrations on the network does not always lead to immediate price movements for XRP, the underlying implications for the digital asset remain significant.
XRP’s Integral Functionality within XRPL
Vet contends that criticisms of XRP’s limited functionality within the ledger stem from a lack of understanding of XRPL’s operational framework. Since its inception in 2012, XRPL has functioned as a multifaceted ledger, where XRP plays a crucial role in facilitating liquidity flows across the network. He highlights its unique position in bridging decentralized exchange transactions and maintaining liquidity.
XRP Ledger has provided a multi-asset framework since 2012. XRP plays a special role in supplying bridge liquidity among decentralized exchange assets, besides being involved in reserves, account requirements, and transaction fees.
In this context, XRP acts as an intermediary asset in the decentralized exchange on XRPL, particularly useful when direct trading pairs are absent. This mechanism aids in completing liquidity across diverse trading situations.
Reevaluating Counterparty Risks
Vet also argues that reducing XRP’s network significance to parameters like liquidity, transaction fees, or account reserves is inadequate. As the sole native asset of the network, XRP avoids counterparty risks, remains neutral, and is immune to freezing. He underscores the rarity of XRP’s position as an independent and unfrozen asset.
Vet notes that XRP, as the network’s only native asset, does not serve as a claim against any entity and therefore remains neutral and immune from freezing.
In contrast, issued tokens might be subject to counterparty intervention or possess certain technical or administrative privileges. Vet asserts that this distinction is a fundamental characteristic that differentiates XRP from other assets within the network.
Linking Price Dynamics to Network Utilization
Addressing questions on why XRP’s price doesn’t increase immediately with every network development, Vet explains that new tokenization processes or corporate integrations do not automatically translate to immediate price hikes for the native asset. He posits that priority should be given to expanding network adoption, broadening use cases, and enhancing acceptance.
Vet believes that price movement should be viewed as a secondary consequence that follows the network’s growing economic value. As the network’s adoption scales, the inherent value proposition of XRP is likely to manifest over time.
Vet suggests that as XRPL sees broader application, the value of the native asset could be indirectly influenced. This perspective offers a long-term framework contrary to expectations of an immediate one-to-one correlation between price and usage.
