RippleX developer J. Ayo Akinyele has dismissed concerns that XRP Ledger’s upcoming privacy upgrade could face the same security risks that recently rattled Zcash, stating that the network’s design contains multiple safeguards against hidden inflation and cryptographic exploits. His comments followed a discussion within the XRP community about whether increasingly powerful artificial intelligence systems could uncover flaws in zero-knowledge cryptography. The debate gained momentum when XRPL Foundation community lead Vet referenced the recent issues surrounding Zcash and questioned whether similar risks could emerge on XRP Ledger.

According to Akinyele, the proposed XLS-0096 amendment, known as Confidential Transfers, differs significantly from privacy systems used by other networks because it combines transaction confidentiality with transparent supply verification. That distinction has become increasingly important as blockchain developers examine how advanced AI models may affect the security assumptions behind privacy-focused technologies. While concerns have grown across the industry, Akinyele argued that XRP Ledger’s architecture was designed to prevent the type of hidden inflation scenario that became a major concern for Zcash users.

According to Akinyele, one of the most important protections within XLS-0096 is its account-based privacy model. Unlike systems that place assets into a shared anonymous pool, XRP Ledger keeps privacy features tied to individual accounts. Consequently, a vulnerability affecting a specific wallet would not automatically threaten the entire network. That approach reduces the risk of a system-wide failure and limits the potential impact of isolated issues.

Akinyele also highlighted the role of ConfidentialOutstandingAmount, a public ledger field that remains visible even when transaction details are hidden. Because that value stays accessible, anyone can independently verify the total amount of issued assets on the network. Moreover, validators must verify specialized zero-knowledge proofs for every issuance, transfer, and burn transaction. Those verification steps ensure that all network activity remains consistent with XRP Ledger’s accounting rules.

The RippleX developer further pointed to the use of EC-ElGamal homomorphic encryption, compact sigma protocols, and range proofs. According to him, these technologies package confidential data into fixed structures that provide fewer opportunities for cryptanalysis and timing-based attacks. Beyond transaction privacy, the amendment introduces an Inbox mechanism that helps prevent payment failures caused by outdated proofs. It also includes view keys, allowing users and institutions to selectively disclose transaction information when regulatory or auditing requirements arise.

According to Akinyele, even if AI tools eventually identify a weakness affecting an individual privacy implementation, validators would reject any transaction that conflicts with publicly verifiable supply records. In conclusion, RippleX maintains that XRP Ledger’s Confidential Transfers amendment balances privacy and transparency, creating safeguards designed to protect the network from the type of hidden inflation concerns that recently emerged within the Zcash ecosystem.
