A screenshot that went viral recently has led to significant speculation, implying that the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) has listed XRP on its platform. As a major player in post-trade market operations, DTCC’s platform reputation made the rumors resonate quickly across financial communities.
Where Did the Noise Begin?
The buzz originated from a widely circulated image extracted from DTCC’s Learning Center website. The screenshot suggested a section titled “XRP Haircut and Classification,” referring to XRP as a cryptocurrency and discussing potential margin adjustments based on trading conditions. Yet, according to Vet, an XRPL validator and researcher, this entire claim is built upon an AI-generated result, not reflecting any official documentation from DTCC.
Vet emphasized, “The DTCC site does not reference XRP in the cited materials. The AI-driven tool…attempts to map answers based on the popularity and relevance of searched keywords.”
Did AI Misguide Users?
Yes, the confusion principally stemmed from the Coveo-powered AI search tool integrated into DTCC’s website. This AI creates contextual responses when users consistently search terms like XRP, even without legitimate documentation backing these results. The spikes in XRP searches seem to have triggered the AI tool to compile an answer, thus misleading users regarding DTCC’s stance on XRP.
Screenshots flaunting the text “Coveo Generated Answer” were shared in the XRP community, reaffirming the AI’s role in creating these deceptive snippets.
What’s Happening at DTCC?
These miscommunications emerged shortly after the DTCC reported successfully executing live trades using tokenized securities—a move catching the eye of digital asset enthusiasts. This initiative included over 30 firms but notably, did not feature Ripple, which is commonly linked with XRP.
The DTCC has not documented XRP in its official listings.
Search results claiming XRP’s classification stemmed from AI generation, lacking formal backing.
Engagements with tokenized securities show DTCC’s focus on blockchain, but not directly involving XRP currently.
The AI tool’s unintended creation of speculative conclusions highlights the importance of user scrutiny.
As speculation bubbles, industry specialists are urging caution about reliance on AI-generated information. Authentic corporate announcements must be differentiated from AI-powered search results to avoid unwarranted market commotion.
