CryptoQuant data shows Binance's XRP Scarcity Index has fallen to -0.94, the lowest level since January 2025. The reading was flagged by CryptoQuant analyst ArabxChain and marks a dramatic reversal in the supply picture on one of the world's largest crypto exchanges.
A Sharp Reversal From July's Two-Year High
The XRP Scarcity Index rose to 0.77 in July, its highest level in roughly two years, before plunging to -0.94 just a few months later. That swing reflects a notable shift in market conditions over a relatively short window.
The Binance Scarcity Index measures how scarce or abundant a cryptocurrency's tradable supply on the exchange is relative to the past. A higher reading means less XRP is immediately available for trading. Conversely, a falling or negative index is generally bearish: more XRP is available on Binance, meaning more potential supply that could be sold, which can create selling pressure.
More Supply Available, But No Confirmed Selling
Binance's total XRP holdings have fallen by about 20% since November 2024, but the remaining supply appears to have shifted into a state where it can be used for trading rather than being stored in cold wallets. Analysts describe this as a shift in how existing supply behaves, not necessarily a change in total holdings.
Increased availability does not automatically mean holders are selling. CryptoQuant analysts note that greater exchange liquidity raises the potential for future selling pressure, but the data alone does not confirm that tokens are actually changing hands. Similar swings have occurred before without triggering lasting price moves.
For $XRP traders, the scarcity index has become a key on-chain indicator to watch alongside broader market catalysts, including any regulatory developments or shifts in exchange reserve flows.
