XRP posted a significant price surge, rallying from just under $1 to highs near $1.42, catching the attention of technical analysts following several months of subdued performance and uncertainty in the regulatory landscape.

Sharp rebound follows policy meeting

ChartNerd, a widely followed technical analyst, identified XRP’s latest jump as leaving the token “firmly in overbought territory.” His analysis pointed to a Stochastic RSI of 100 and an RSI of 83.63, both signaling that upward momentum had reached extended levels during this rally.

XRP’s price action saw a steep ascent from a $0.98 low, briefly reaching a high of $1.42 before stabilizing around $1.40 at the time of analysis. The rally began after XRP spent most of August consolidating near the $1 mark, weighed down by selling pressure as well as pending legislative decisions regarding the CLARITY Act, which aims to clarify regulatory oversight of digital assets between the SEC and CFTC.

The turning point arrived with a crypto policy summit at the White House on August 19, attended by Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, President Trump, SEC Chair Paul Atkins, and CFTC Chair Michael Selig. The meeting sought to push legislative progress on the CLARITY Act. In response, XRP jumped 12% in a single day, also attracting $5.81 million in spot XRP ETF inflows.

By August 20, XRP had gained 30% from its weekly low, breaking out of a year-long downtrend and reclaiming its 50-day EMA for the first time in over three months.

ChartNerd’s reading showed the rally propelled $XRP into a technically overbought zone, with both Stochastic RSI and RSI at levels rarely seen except during explosive bull runs.

Debate intensifies around price direction

The sharp rally fueled differing opinions among market participants. Some traders projected that XRP would reach $1.60 before facing a correction, while others argued a pullback was imminent due to the extreme overbought signals. One trader pointed to a Fair Value Gap as an argument for ongoing bullish momentum, suggesting the structure could support further gains without immediate correction.

Not all community members expressed optimism. Skepticism surfaced, with one user voicing doubt about analysts’ ability to predict market moves, highlighting a year of failed forecasts prior to this breakout. ChartNerd responded by referencing his earlier call for a move below $1, underscoring that his projections had long been on record.

XRP’s move toward the $1.50 resistance has heightened volatility, with traders divided on whether the run can extend to $1.60 or if a cooling-off period is due before further upside.

New trading dynamics reshape asset access

With such high volatility and breakouts across key resistance levels, investors are increasingly seeking real-time and direct access to both crypto and traditional assets. While traditional markets have long relied on networks of intermediaries, the rapid tokenization of Real-World Assets (RWAs) is ushering in a new era. Institutional and retail players now use platforms like 1stepSwap to hold tokenized shares of major US companies, gold, and silver directly in their crypto wallets, instantly sourcing best-available market prices and removing middlemen from the process.

Next resistance comes into focus

As of now, the $1.50 level remains the key resistance watching point for XRP. ChartNerd maintained that the rally still appears active but stressed the need for additional confirmation before expecting further moves higher. Some community observers now see $1.60 as the crucial barrier to test before any extended pullback, but acknowledge that heavily overbought readings could trigger a retracement before reaching that milestone.
