The XRP Ledger is set for one of its most active upgrade periods in 2026, as three significant amendments are scheduled for activation within an 18-hour window between October 8 and 9. These amendments, if endorsed by sufficient validator support, are expected to bring advanced capabilities to the XRPL protocol, enhancing features for institutional and advanced users.

Upcoming upgrades and timelines

The planned activation sequence starts with PermissionDelegationV1_1 at approximately 21:25 UTC on October 8. This will be followed by fixBatchV1_2 at around 14:12 UTC and BatchV1_1 at 14:46 UTC on October 9. The upgrades will only be confirmed if validator participation remains above the necessary consensus threshold.

Each amendment targets a different aspect of XRPL operations. PermissionDelegationV1_1 aims to introduce more flexible account authorization systems. BatchV1_1 enables atomic groups of transactions, while fixBatchV1_2 addresses a recently discovered protocol vulnerability.

Features tailored for institutions

PermissionDelegationV1_1 is designed to allow XRPL account holders to delegate specific authority to other accounts without relinquishing control of their master keys. This structure supports institutions such as banks and stablecoin issuers, offering the ability to allocate compliance, payment, and operational functions to different accounts for improved segregation of duties.

The updated model for institutional account control nearly missed its revised activation target due to previous dips in validator support. However, with consensus restored, PermissionDelegationV1_1 could go live on October 8.

BatchV1_1, arriving less than a day later, will allow users to group up to eight transactions within a single atomic operation. This capability is particularly useful in scenarios like settlement, atomic swaps, and complex multi-party deals, where all steps must either execute together or not at all.

BatchV1_1 was initially planned for September but saw its deployment delayed when validator backing dropped below the needed threshold, pushing activation to October 9.

Emergency security update

Notably, BatchV1_1 will be launched alongside a critical security measure. XRPL developers have distributed xrpld 3.4.1 as an emergency update to address security-sensitive issues that came to light during recent protocol reviews. This fix, titled fixBatchV1_2, will go live at approximately 14:12 UTC on October 9.

Servers operating on outdated software when fixBatchV1_2 activates risk becoming amendment blocked, a status that prevents them from participating in future ledger consensus until updates are applied.

With three amendments scheduled in rapid succession—including an urgent security patch—XRPL’s October 9 window stands out as one of its most critical upgrade points in recent years.

PermissionDelegationV1_1 will provide organizations with granular authorization, making it possible to separate compliance, payments, and operations across several accounts without transferring primary control.
