How the Aerodrome and Velodrome Merger Works
Aerodrome, the largest DEX on Base, and Velodrome, a leading exchange on OP Mainnet, merged on October 22, 2026 to launch Aero. According to a KuCoin News report citing Aero's official launch announcement, existing AERO holders receive a 1:1 migration, while VELO converts at a ratio of 1:0.044. Aerodrome holders receive 94.5% of the new token supply and Velodrome holders receive 5.5%.
Earlier locked positions known as veAERO and veVELO convert into sAERO under the new design. TechFlow reported that the project said Aerodrome accounted for 58% of DEX trading volume on Base in the third quarter, while Velodrome held 60% on OP Mainnet.
Dromos Labs CEO Alex Cutler said Aero will direct 100% of exchange revenue to stakers, according to Crypto Economy.
