The @aeroxyz DeFi platform has generated a cumulative total of more than $608M worth of protocol fees. The milestone comes days after the merger of Aerodrome and Velodrome into a single exchange, with $AERO back in focus as the protocol expands to new chains and changes its token economics.
Merger and multi-chain launch
Aerodrome and Velodrome combined into Aero, a single onchain spot exchange. The merger took place on 21 October 2026, and the two platforms previously ran separately, Aerodrome on Base and Velodrome on OP Mainnet, with Dromos Labs developing both protocols.
Aero went live across seven networks: Ethereum mainnet, Base, OP Mainnet, Arbitrum, Arc, Ink and Robinhood Chain. According to the project, all seven launch chains get a full Aero deployment.
Scale was a stated driver. The project team said Aerodrome accounted for 58% of DEX trading volume on Base in the third quarter, while Velodrome held 60% on OP Mainnet.
What changes for the AERO token
The deal merges the two token systems. Under the official upgrade terms, 1 AERO becomes 1 AERO, and 1 VELO becomes 0.044 AERO.Velodrome holders receive 5.5% of the new AERO supply, and Aerodrome holders receive 94.5%.
Emissions policy also changes. The realized annual inflation rate for AERO is expected to be about 12%, with the annual rate ceiling at launch set at 20%. That helps explain why the token is less deflationary than before. Aero replaces the weekly emissions votes of its predecessors with Predictive Allocation, under which holders stake AERO to direct rewards toward markets they expect to generate fees.Gauge Caps limit emissions to 1.2 times expected revenue.
Revenue sharing has been reworked as well. Dromos said 100% of exchange revenue at launch goes to sAERO holders.Vote-escrowed veAERO and veVELO positions convert to staked sAERO, which can be transferred and does not rebase.
The market reaction has been negative so far. AERO slumped 10.02% after the merger was finalized and the tokenomics overhaul was unveiled. Holders should check migration steps, since the process is not automatically completed for self-custody holders.
