Aero, the decentralised exchange formed from the merger of Aerodrome and Velodrome, has launched Autopilot, a tool that lets $AERO stakers automate how their positions are managed. The release follows the exchange's October 21 launch, where Autopilot was listed as an optional feature.

Through @aeroxyz, the team said sAERO holders can configure Autopilot to handle the allocation process and to compound or convert earned exchange revenue. The tool is aimed at stakers who want to earn exchange revenue without taking part in the allocation process manually.

What Autopilot Does for sAERO Holders

Stakers using Autopilot can automate pool selection, reallocation and the claiming of rewards and revenue. At present, users can choose to accrue rewards automatically in either $sAERO itself or the $USDC stablecoin.

Aero's staker documentation states that Autopilot handles allocation, claiming and compounding for an sAERO stake, and can convert rewards into a target token instead of compounding them. The same documentation says the stake stays in its owner's wallet and the owner can withdraw it from Autopilot.

sAERO is an NFT that represents staked AERO and carries its allocation rights, according to the project's documentation. Under Aero's model, stakers direct AERO rewards to liquidity pools and earn a share of the exchange revenue those pools generate. Autopilot is designed for users who want to set a strategy without managing each step by hand.

One operating detail applies to automated and manual users alike. Each sAERO position has a 47-hour cooldown between allocation changes, which also applies to Autopilot. Users who allocate manually before Autopilot's first round must wait for that cooldown before reallocating.

Background: The Aerodrome and Velodrome Merger

Aero went live on October 21 across seven networks. The Block reported that it is launching on Ethereum mainnet, Base, Robinhood Chain, Ink, OP Mainnet, Arc and Arbitrum. Existing AERO and VELO tokens migrate to a new AERO token, while veAERO and veVELO positions convert to sAERO.

According to the same report, Aerodrome accounted for 58% of DEX trading volume on Base in the third quarter, while Velodrome accounted for 60% on OP Mainnet, based on the team's statement.

Dromos Labs CEO Alex Cutler said at launch that 100% of the revenue the exchange earns goes back to those who stake AERO, according to a report on Yahoo Finance. Revenue sharing is not the same as guaranteed returns, and the amount stakers earn depends on trading activity in the pools they back.

Aero also uses a continuous allocation model in place of the weekly voting rounds used by Aerodrome and Velodrome, which is the system Autopilot is built to automate.
