Aerodrome and Velodrome (@VelodromeFi) have merged their operations under Aero (@aeroxyz), a spot exchange launching across seven blockchain networks. The combined platform aims to extend the model that made both decentralised exchanges (DEXs) leaders on their home networks.
Seven networks, one exchange
Aero covers Ethereum (@ethereum) $ETH, Base (@base), Robinhood Chain (@RobinhoodCrypto), Ink (@inkonchain), OP Mainnet (@Optimism) $OP, Arc (@arc) and Arbitrum (@arbitrum) $ARB. The networks collectively process approximately $120 billion in monthly DEX trading volume, according to the project. That figure reflects activity across those networks, not volume handled by Aero itself.
The two exchanges bring established market positions. Aerodrome accounted for 58% of DEX trading volume on Base during the third quarter, while Velodrome captured 60% on OP Mainnet, according to the statement. Aerodrome runs on Base and Velodrome on Optimism, and both were developed by Dromos Labs using related code.
Alex Cutler, founder and CEO of Dromos Labs, said 100% of the revenue Aero earns goes back to the people who stake AERO.
New features and token migration
Aero will introduce predictive liquidity allocation, cross-chain Metaswaps and dynamic trading fees through Slipstream V3. Predictive Allocation lets participants stake AERO and direct liquidity reward budgets to markets expected to generate returns. Metaswaps connect trading between networks using existing onchain liquidity.Slipstream V3 adds dynamic fees that increase during rapid market movements, along with MEV capture on supported Layer 2 networks.
As part of the merger, existing AERO and VELO tokens will migrate to a new AERO token, while veAERO and veVELO will convert to sAERO. The new token contract is base:0x940181a94a35a4569e4529a3cdfb74e38fd98631. The project has said the new contract address would be published through its official channels on launch day, and holders should verify the address before approving transactions.
Earlier details from CoinMarketCap indicate existing AERO converts 1:1 to new AERO, while each VELO converts to approximately 0.044 AERO. Holders should confirm the rates through official Aero channels before migrating.
