Hong Kong-licensed issuer @AlphaTokenHQ has deployed XAUa, a tokenized gold product, on @SuiNetwork. It is the first regulated tokenized gold product built under the network's Permissioned Asset Standard (PAS). The launch adds a compliance-focused real-world asset (RWA) to the $SUI ecosystem.
@realtbook handles distribution through its on-chain vault architecture. Each token is backed 1:1 by physical bullion held in audited Hong Kong depositories. Investors must hold KYC-verified credentials to mint XAUa and to settle trades in the secondary market.
How the Permissioned Asset Standard Works
PAS is designed to embed compliance directly into the token's transfer logic. According to PANews, issuers write compliance rules into a Policy, and every transfer must pass Policy validation before settlement. Transfers that fail are rejected with no change to balances.
Crypto Briefing reported that PAS limits transfers to pre-approved accounts and was developed by Mysten Labs, the team behind Sui. The same report said the standard is available on Sui mainnet.
PANews also reported that TBook has migrated and rebuilt its vault issuance platform on PAS. This would allow future RWA issuers to launch vaults with similar compliance controls directly on Sui.
What XAUa Represents
According to Crypto Briefing, each XAUa token represents one gram of physical gold at 99.99% purity with LBMA certification, held in Brinks' custody in Hong Kong. AlphaToken handles issuance and compliance, while TBook runs on-chain distribution. The report adds that XAUa is not a new product: it was previously issued on Ethereum under Alpha Global Reserve Limited, and the Sui deployment extends it to a Move-based ecosystem.
Gold is not new to Sui. In an earlier launch, Matrixdock deployed its XAUm gold token on Sui, the first time XAUm was issued on a non-EVM chain, according to the Sui blog. XAUa differs in its emphasis on permissioned access. Where open gold tokens can be held freely, XAUa restricts holders to verified, eligible participants.
The launch reflects a broader push to bring regulated assets on-chain with controls built into the protocol rather than added afterwards. Whether the restricted-access model draws meaningful volume will depend on institutional demand, which has not yet been disclosed.
