The altcoin market cap moved above $1.07 trillion as Bitcoin(BTC) dominance weakened, but key market gauges still stopped short of confirming a full altseason.
Key Points:
- The altcoin market cap crossed $1.07 trillion, the midpoint of a long-term range.
- The Altcoin Season Index stood at 54, well below the above-80 readings associated with previous market extremes.
- About 70% of altcoins on Binance traded above their 200-day moving average, signaling broader strength.
Altcoin Cap Breakout
The combined altcoin market cap, including Ethereum(ETH), cleared $1.07 trillion, the midpoint of a long-term trading range. That breakout put $1.71 trillion back in view.
The move came while Bitcoin recovered from about $76,000 to above $80,000 and approached resistance near $82,000, while its share of the crypto market weakened. Sentiment stayed elevated, with the Crypto Market Fear and Greed Index remaining above 60 since Aug. 20.
Still, CoinGlass data showed the Altcoin Season Index at only 54. The reading remained well below 80, a level reached in September 2025 shortly before Bitcoin set its all-time high, so the current rotation has not yet matched that historical altseason threshold.

Bitcoin Dominance Signals
Glassnode said altcoin open interest, measured as a share of Bitcoin open interest, had not reached levels associated with excessive risk. Ethereum’s recovery added support to the case for continued altcoin strength.
Crypto analyst Darkfost said 70% of altcoins listed on Binance had moved back above their 200-day moving average, showing that bullish momentum had broadened across the market.
The breadth was notable. Alphractal also reported a jump in social media activity after the broader rally, a shift that can drive more discussion, FOMO and speculation as traders react to stronger prices.
Leverage remains the main near-term risk. Higher leverage can deepen a pullback if crowded positions unwind, even while current market conditions continue to support further gains across altcoins.
The current setup follows several weeks of improving crypto sentiment, including Bitcoin’s rebound toward $82,000 and a broad recovery in altcoin trend measures. For a clearer altseason signal, the market would still need stronger capital rotation away from Bitcoin alongside further altcoin market cap gains and a materially higher Altcoin Season Index.
