Amundi, recognized as Europe’s largest asset manager by portfolio size, has announced the launch of a tokenized share class for its STOXX Europe 600 equity index fund on the Ethereum blockchain. This development follows Amundi’s earlier ventures into blockchain-based fund vehicles and marks its first foray beyond tokenized money market funds.

Amundi expands blockchain-based offerings

The new share class was created in partnership with CACEIS, a major European asset-servicing provider, which supplied the tokenization infrastructure needed for the launch. Despite the introduction of blockchain-based shares, Amundi confirmed that investors could still access the fund through traditional channels.

The STOXX Europe 600 Index, which the fund tracks, represents a wide cross-section of large, mid, and small-cap companies across developed European markets. This index offers broad exposure to the continent’s equity landscape.

Amundi emphasized its intention to broaden its suite of tokenized funds, developing new products for institutional investors and digital investment platforms. The company pointed to potential improvements in fund accessibility, swifter settlement processes, and increased operational efficiency as key benefits of tokenization.

Amundi stated its commitment to expanding tokenized fund offerings for institutions and digital platforms, citing enhanced settlement speed, accessibility, and efficiency as drivers of its strategy.

This launch follows Amundi’s introduction of its first tokenized money market fund share class in November 2025, which was also developed in collaboration with CACEIS and issued on Ethereum.

Mini dictionary: CACEIS is a European asset servicing company specializing in custody, fund administration, and related services for asset managers, insurance companies, and institutional investors.

Global growth in tokenized equities market

The launch takes place as the global market for tokenized equities expands rapidly, although the bulk of products remain linked to US assets. According to RWA.xyz, the value of tokenized stocks soared to $4.24 billion as of Wednesday, Nov. 4, reflecting a nearly 27% growth over the previous month.

Data from RWA.xyz further shows that the ten largest tokenized equity products by value are all tied to US companies or US-listed securities, including major names such as Securitize, SpaceX, Circle, and Alphabet.

The dominance of US-related assets has prompted European financial companies to urge regulators for greater reform. In April, a coalition of 39 firms and industry associations called on the European Union to accelerate changes, warning that the region could lose ground to the United States in the tokenized finance sector.

The coalition requested broader asset eligibility, higher trading volume limits, and the elimination of time restrictions for licenses under the EU Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) Pilot Regime.

The DLT Pilot Regime, part of the EU’s digital finance package, aims to support innovative blockchain uses in capital markets by providing a regulatory framework for trading and settlement using distributed ledger technology.

European firms continue to monitor regulatory developments closely as tokenized products gain momentum, with further product launches and reforms anticipated in the coming months.
