Apple's first foldable iPhone remains on course for a September launch with a price above $2,000, though fresh supply chain reporting says the shipping date is unsettled.

A supply chain report published Jul. 23 describedFoxconn as the assembler carrying Apple's folding phone from new product introduction all the way through mass production.
Engineering validation may have cost the project one to two months, with hinge structure and display durability testing named as the principal bottlenecks.
That framing sits awkwardly against the past month of coverage. Foxconn began trial assembly in April, and Apple later lifted its order to roughly 10 million units after resolving hinge and circuit board problems. Two weeks ago, a separate account put the device already in mass production, with no delay expected.

Leaks and dummy units point to a book-style handset, expected to carry the iPhone Ultra name, that opens sideways into a squat, iPad mini-sized canvas with a 4:3 aspect ratio. The inner panel measures roughly 7.7 to 7.8 inches, the cover screen about 5.5 inches, and the body around 4.5mm when open.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has credited the near-flat display to a Liquidmetal hinge and laser-drilled metal plates set beneath the panel.
The compromises look real. Coverage has outlined a device without Face ID and without a telephoto lens, moving Touch ID to the side button to save room.
The software picture is far less speculative. Apple previewed Siri AI at its June developer conference, then released the iOS 27 public beta on Jul. 14, giving owners of recent iPhones a working look at the assistant months before any folding hardware arrives.
The assistant holds back-and-forth conversations, reads what sits on screen, searches Mail, Messages and Photos, and takes action inside apps. It requires an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, arrives in English first, and will not reach the European Union or China at launch.
Developers who verified the first build also found framework references to fold states, hinge angles and a count of built-in displays, none of which fit a current iPhone.
The wait has been long. Credible reports placed a folding iPhone two years out as far back as 2018, and the target slid through 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2025 before settling on this fall.
