Announcement Details: Wirex, Crossmint, and Stellar Join the Project

New Era Visionary Group (NEGV), the official telecom partner of FC Barcelona, has confirmed the Barca Mobile digital wallet is in development.

The announcement came through Stellar's official X account on August 12, 2026, which shared a report first published on the club's telecom operator website.

The feature will be built with Wirex and Crossmint, and it will settle transactions on theStellar network, an open-source blockchain used for payments and asset transfers. It is being added inside the existing telecom app, not launched as a separate product.

What Actually Happened

Wirex confirmed the partnership in an official blog post. According to the post, NEGV has brought in three technology providers to build the new feature:

  1. Wirex  handles the payment and card infrastructure layer

  2. Crossmint supplies wallet infrastructure and user onboarding technology

  3. Stellar Development Foundation  provides the blockchain settlement layer

Wirex is a card-issuing payments company and a principal member of Visa and Mastercard.

Crossmint builds infrastructure that businesses use to issue and manage digital wallets. The blockchain network is built for fast, low-cost value transfers, including cross-border payments.

Why It Matters

The Barca Mobile digital wallet extends a telecom app into payments and rewards. Subscribers currently use the app mainly for eSIM connectivity in more than 170 countries. A few points stand out:

  1. It moves the app beyond connectivity into payments, loyalty, and travel services

  2. It gives FC Barcelona's global fanbase a single app for telecom and financial features

  3. It places a football-linked consumer brand among a small group testing blockchain settlement instead of building infrastructure in-house

Official Details

Wirex stated that once payment features go live, subscribers will be able to spend at more than 80 million merchants worldwide. Crossmint will manage account creation and onboarding.

Stellar will handle settlement, which the announcement describes as fast and low-cost compared with traditional cross-border transfers.

NEGV CEO Ruslan Bîrlădeanu said the addition strengthens the existing telecom platform rather than creating a new business line. The company frames the move as part of its "Go Global, Stay Connected" strategy.

What Comes Next

  1. NEGV has not published a public launch date for the Barca Mobile digital wallet

  2. Payment, loyalty, and travel functions are described as still in development

  3. Further technical and rollout details are expected as the partnership progresses

Expert Opinion

This project reflects a pattern seen across telecom and consumer apps: adding wallet infrastructure through third-party partners instead of building blockchain systems in-house.

Using Stellar for settlement and Crossmint for onboarding lets NEGV focus on its existing subscriber base while relying on established providers for the technical layer

Because no rollout date or token model has been confirmed, near-term impact for users depends on how quickly the payment and rewards functions move from announcement to release.

Conclusion

The Barca Mobile digital wallet marks one of the clearer examples of a football-linked consumer app adopting blockchain settlement through established infrastructure partners.

By pairing Wirex's card network, Crossmint's onboarding tools, and Stellar's settlement layer, NEGV is positioning its telecom app to handle payments alongside connectivity.

The scope so far is limited to an official partnership announcement; a launch date, supported countries, and full feature list have not been released. Readers following FC Barcelona's digital ecosystem should watch for NEGV's next update on rollout timing.
