Base Crosses $26 Trillion in Stablecoin Volume
@Base has recorded a sharp acceleration in stablecoin activity in 2026, processing $26.1 trillion in volume across the first seven months of the year. That figure already represents a 49% increase over the $17.5 trillion processed across the entirety of 2025, putting the @Coinbase-backed Layer 2 on course for a record annual total.
According to data cited by Across Protocol, Base processed over $17 trillion in stablecoin volume across 26 currencies and 17 countries in 2025 alone, establishing itself as one of the most active stablecoin settlement layers in the world. The 2026 figures suggest that trajectory has steepened considerably.
Why Liquidity Is Migrating to Base
The growth reflects a broader structural shift in how users and institutions route stablecoin flows. The Block's 2026 Digital Assets Outlook identified Base as the clear leader across TVL, users, and activity among Layer 2 networks in 2025, noting that distribution and strategic partnerships, not just technical capability, have become the primary drivers of L2 growth. Base's position inside the @Coinbase ecosystem gives it a structural advantage in attracting both retail and institutional stablecoin flows.
That macro context matters too. A Federal Reserve note published in April 2026 highlighted how the GENIUS Act, signed into law in July 2025, established a formal regulatory framework for stablecoins in the United States, giving issuers and platforms the clarity needed to scale payment volume more aggressively. Layer 2 networks accounted for 95% of Ethereum's transaction throughput, according to Coinbase, suggesting that high-frequency stablecoin activity has successfully migrated to more efficient, low-cost execution layers.
For Base, sub-second settlement times and low transaction fees within the @Coinbase ecosystem appear to be the main pull factors as users and developers prioritize cost-efficient, fast infrastructure for stablecoin transfers, payments, and DeFi operations.
