Binance, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges, has announced the phased resumption of withdrawal services for major digital assets after a major security breach resulted in $6.3 billion being stolen from the platform’s hot wallets.
Withdrawals to resume for major cryptocurrencies
The exchange said withdrawal services for leading cryptocurrencies including XRP, Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Solana (SOL), along with several other assets, will become available to users between 06:00 and 09:00 UTC as part of a carefully managed process.
According to Binance, this resumption will be implemented progressively as comprehensive security and infrastructure readiness checks are completed. The exchange emphasized that not all cryptocurrencies and networks will be enabled simultaneously, as each asset’s reactivation depends on meeting security requirements and recent user withdrawal trends.
Binance stated that they aim to restore withdrawals progressively as security and readiness checks are completed, noting that user withdrawal demand over the past week influenced which assets are prioritized.
During the suspension, deposit services remained operational to minimize disruption for users. Binance selected the first batch of 15 blockchain networks for withdrawal reactivation, covering commonly used platforms.
Comprehensive asset coverage
In addition to Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and XRP, the exchange will also enable withdrawals on networks such as BNB Smart Chain, Tron, and Dogecoin, as well as lesser-known blockchains including Zcash (ZEC), Avalanche (AVAX), Sui (SUI), Polygon (POL), and Arbitrum (ARB). Major stablecoins, namely Tether (USDT) and USD Coin (USDC), will be available for withdrawal across multiple supported networks.
Binance clarified that the list of assets for initial resumption was determined based on user withdrawal demand observed over the previous week. This approach aims to prioritize liquidity and meet the most immediate needs of customers.
The exchange cautioned that due to ongoing security procedures, some assets or networks could be enabled later than others as checks are finalized.
Mini dictionary: Hot wallet — a type of cryptocurrency wallet connected to the internet, often used by exchanges for faster transactions but more vulnerable to security breaches compared to offline “cold” wallets.
Security breach and asset recovery
The move to restore withdrawal services follows a significant security incident in which hackers stole approximately $6.3 billion in digital assets from Binance’s hot wallets. In response, the exchange took swift action to halt withdrawals, conduct a forensic investigation, and prevent further losses.
Binance has now disclosed that 95% of the stolen assets have been recovered, an increase from the previously reported recovery rate of 90%. The exchange confirmed in its latest statement that balances of affected cryptocurrencies — including Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, BNB, USDT, USDC, Zcash, USD1, and Ripple USD (RLUSD) — are fully backed.
The unrecovered portion consists primarily of low-liquidity cryptocurrencies, which the exchange stated are more difficult to purchase in adequate quantities on the open market.
Binance reported that the remaining 5% includes assets with lower liquidity, making full buyback more challenging at current volumes.
