  • The BIP-110 chain fell 18 blocks behind Bitcoin after Roughnecks mined blocks 961,632 and 961,633 on the minority fork.
  • BIP-110 retained Bitcoin's 127.48 trillion mining difficulty despite controlling only a small share of the network's computing power.
  • Miner support remained below the proposal's 55% signaling threshold, leaving the minority chain facing longer block times and limited hash power.

BIP-110 supporters have fallen 18 blocks behind Bitcoin after their minority chain split at block 961,632. The Roughnecks mining pool produced blocks 961,632 and 961,633, while Bitcoin advanced to 961,651. The split followed mandatory signaling rules, while mining difficulty simultaneously reached 127.48 trillion, leaving the minority chain with far less computing power.

Roughnecks Struggles After Chain Split

Roughnecks produced its second BIP-110 block at height 961,633 after Antpool mined the competing block on Bitcoin’s main chain. The two chains then continued separately under different node rules. The BIP-110 chain inherited Bitcoin’s 127.48 trillion mining difficulty.

However, it operates with only a small portion of Bitcoin’s total hash power. Bitcoin adjusts mining difficulty every 2,016 blocks. Therefore, the minority chain must continue producing blocks before reaching its next adjustment.

Matthew Kratter acknowledged that the BIP-110 chain would need a massive change to overtake Bitcoin. Meanwhile, some supporters have discussed changing the proof-of-work algorithm.

Miner Support Remains Limited

Michael Saylor said BIP-110 had received only 2.6% miner support. He said BIP-110 nodes would reject blocks without the required signaling after block 961,632. The proposal’s mandatory signaling period required 55% miner support.

However, supplied figures show support remained between 0.3% and 2.6%. Dathon Ohm, who authored BIP-110, said the Bitcoin network faced an attack from hostile miners.

Luke Dashjr also warned Bitcoin Knots users about potential double-spending attacks. The split followed a dispute over Bitcoin’s handling of arbitrary data. BIP-110 seeks temporary restrictions on such data within Bitcoin transactions.

BIP-110 Chain Faces Longer Block Times

No stolen or affected coins are mentioned in the supplied information. Instead, the immediate issue concerns block production and competing chain rules.

Simple Mining, an Iowa-based hosting company directing hash power toward Ocean, mined Bitcoin block 961,634. Its use of Ocean’s DATUM system allows miners to choose their block templates.

Notably, Ocean has ties to the BIP-110 camp. Dashjr serves as Ocean’s chief technology officer, while Ocean and DATUM miners provided early proposal signaling.

Galaxy figures are not relevant to this split and are therefore excluded. The supplied information places the BIP-110 chain 18 blocks behind Bitcoin at block height 961,651.
