CryptoCompass editorial visual for markets coverage.
  • Bitcoin trades near $80,600 ahead of a major $11 billion options expiry.
  • Deribit options imply a 3.9% move, with maximum pain near $78,000.
  • Fed policy and PCE inflation could reshape rate expectations and crypto prices.
  • Coinbase and Strategy earnings will test crypto demand and Bitcoin financing.

Bitcoin enters the final week of October near $80,500, with approximately $11 billion in options approaching expiry just as the Federal Reserve prepares its latest interest-rate decision and U.S. inflation figures threaten to reshape monetary policy expectations.

The derivatives market offers a more precise measure of the immediate stakes. Short-dated options indicate an expected move of approximately 3.9% through Friday’s settlement, while perpetual-futures funding remains relatively subdued. The combination suggests that traders are pricing meaningful event risk without an equally pronounced buildup of leveraged bullish positions.

The distinction matters because the week’s price action may depend less on the widely anticipated Federal Reserve decision itself than on whether subsequent inflation data and corporate earnings force investors to reassess their existing positions.

Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana Enter Fed Week Under Pressure

Bitcoin has retreated from levels above $84,000 earlier in the week, while Ethereum and Solana have also weakened. The correction leaves cryptocurrency markets sensitive to changes in U.S. interest-rate expectations and derivatives positioning.

The following figures represent rounded October 25 market observations rather than live quotations.

Ethereum’s valuation relative to Bitcoin provides an additional measure of market breadth. At approximately 0.029 BTC per ETH, the ratio indicates that one Ether is worth about 2.9% of a Bitcoin.

If Bitcoin recovers while that ratio continues declining, the improvement would suggest capital concentration in BTC rather than a broad-based return of demand across digital assets. A simultaneous recovery in ETH/BTC would provide stronger evidence of expanding risk appetite.

Fed Decision and PCE Inflation Create a Two-Stage Policy Test

The Federal Reserve concludes its October 27–28 meeting on Wednesday, with its policy announcement scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time and Kevin Warsh’s press conference beginning 30 minutes later.

Markets entered the week assigning approximately a 90% probability to unchanged interest rates, according to the CME FedWatch estimate circulating ahead of the meeting. That leaves relatively little room for a routine hold to surprise investors.

The more consequential question is whether policymakers reinforce expectations for another rate increase in December.

The following morning, the Bureau of Economic Analysis is scheduled to publish

September’s Personal Consumption Expenditures inflation figures alongside the advance estimate of third-quarter GDP. Both releases are listed for October 29 at 8:30 a.m. ET in the agency’s official publication calendar.

Headline PCE inflation is expected to reach approximately 3.6% annually, according to the supplied market forecast. However, the composition of inflation will matter as much as the headline.

A rise concentrated in volatile energy prices would carry different policy implications from persistent increases across core services. Investors will also examine whether GDP growth reflects resilient domestic demand or more temporary contributions from inventories and trade.

For cryptocurrency markets, the most useful indicators immediately following these releases will be changes in the two-year Treasury yield, the dollar and December Fed funds futures.

Together, they can reveal whether investors are repricing monetary policy or reacting primarily to short-term market volatility.

Bitcoin Options Price a $3,100 Move Before Friday

Friday’s October 30 options expiry represents one of the week’s most significant cryptocurrency-specific events.

Deribit-linked positioning figures indicate approximately 136,000 BTC in outstanding contracts approaching settlement, with a combined notional value near $11 billion.

The reported put/call open-interest ratio stands around 0.55, meaning outstanding call contracts outnumber puts by approximately 1.8 to one.

That imbalance does not automatically indicate bullish positioning. Calls can be sold rather than purchased, incorporated into spreads or used to hedge other exposures.

A separate October 25 options snapshot places at-the-money implied volatility near 32% for the October 30 expiry.

Using a Bitcoin reference price of $80,717 and the standard square-root-of-time approximation, that volatility implies a move of approximately $3,117 through settlement.

The resulting one-standard-deviation range extends from roughly $77,600 to $83,835. This is an options-based estimate, not a technical forecast or guaranteed trading boundary.

The lower boundary sits close to the estimated $78,000 maximum-pain level, while the upper boundary remains substantially below the major $95,000 call concentration.

The distinction between open interest and dealer exposure is essential. A large concentration of contracts at a particular strike does not reveal whether market makers are net long or short gamma.

Dealers with positive gamma exposure generally hedge against price movements, potentially reducing volatility. Negative gamma exposure can require adjustments in the same direction as the market, amplifying existing moves.

Without reliable information about dealer inventory and trade direction, treating maximum pain as a price target would be unjustified.

The futures market offers a second perspective. CryptoQuant-linked observations from October 22 placed perpetual-futures funding near 0.0049%, below the 0.01% reference level commonly associated with moderately positive eight-hour funding.

Assuming comparable eight-hour intervals, that funding rate corresponds to an annualized simple financing cost of approximately 5.4% for leveraged longs.

The relatively restrained premium suggests that the substantial options exposure is not accompanied by an equally pronounced buildup of aggressive long positions in perpetual futures.

Coinbase and Strategy Earnings Will Test Crypto Market Demand

Corporate earnings introduce another layer of market risk, although their implications differ substantially across companies.

Microsoft and Alphabet are scheduled to report on October 28, followed by Amazon, Coinbase and Strategy on October 29. The three technology giants collectively represent more than $10 trillion in market capitalization based on the supplied estimates.

For Bitcoin, the significance of Big Tech earnings lies primarily in their influence on equity-market risk appetite. Unexpected weakness in cloud growth, operating margins or returns on AI investment could prompt portfolio adjustments across technology stocks and other volatile assets.

Coinbase and Strategy offer more direct information about the cryptocurrency industry.

Coinbase’s third-quarter results will reveal how trading volumes, institutional activity and subscription revenue performed during a period of changing digital-asset prices. Particularly important will be whether revenue growth reflects sustained customer engagement or temporary increases in trading volatility.

Strategy’s results require a different analytical approach. Changes in the fair value of its Bitcoin holdings can materially affect reported earnings without generating corresponding operating cash flows.

Investors should instead examine the company’s financing activity, additional Bitcoin acquisitions and the terms on which it can continue raising capital. These indicators provide a clearer measure of the sustainability of its Bitcoin treasury strategy.

Global Monetary Policy Adds Pressure to Friday’s Settlement

The European Central Bank announces its interest-rate decision on Thursday, October 29, while the Bank of Japan concludes its policy meeting on Friday, October 30.

The Japanese decision is particularly relevant to leveraged global markets because changes in yen funding costs can influence carry trades.

A stronger yen or unexpectedly restrictive monetary guidance could encourage investors to reduce positions financed through yen borrowing. Such adjustments may affect cryptocurrencies even without a deterioration in underlying digital-asset demand.

The timing creates an unusual concentration of events: U.S. monetary guidance on Wednesday, inflation and European policy decisions on Thursday, and Japan’s announcement alongside Bitcoin’s major options settlement on Friday.

For traders, the critical distinction will be whether price movements are supported by sustained spot demand or amplified by short-term derivatives adjustments.

The Price Levels That Matter for Bitcoin

The October 25 options snapshot provides three reference areas for evaluating the market’s response.

The $83,835 upper implied-range boundary represents a move of approximately 3.9% from the derivatives reference price. Trading beyond that level would indicate a larger-than-one-standard-deviation move relative to the initial volatility estimate, although such outcomes remain possible.

The $78,000 maximum-pain estimate sits close to the lower implied-range boundary near $77,600. Neither figure establishes confirmed technical support, but both provide useful reference points for assessing Friday’s settlement.

The $95,000 call concentration is considerably more distant, requiring a roughly 17.7% increase from the $80,717 reference price. Its significance is therefore primarily as an options-positioning concentration rather than an immediate upside target.

The most useful confirmation signals will be changes in spot trading volume, perpetual-futures funding, open interest and the ETH/BTC ratio. Together, these indicators can help distinguish genuine capital inflows from temporary leverage-driven price movements.

Friday’s expiry will remove a substantial amount of October options exposure, but that does not guarantee lower volatility. Traders may roll positions into November contracts, while the week’s monetary policy developments could continue influencing markets after settlement.

Bitcoin’s immediate challenge is whether spot demand can absorb a potentially significant macroeconomic repricing without a destabilizing adjustment in derivatives markets.
