Key Insights:

  • Bitcoin news: Michael Saylor sees a BTC-backed stablecoin as a potential next step in expanding digital money and credit.
  • Strategy’s $STRC, USD reserves, and buybacks feature in Saylor’s broader vision for Bitcoin-backed digital credit.
  • Saylor also highlighted AI-driven Bitcoin scarcity, crypto regulation, and institutional adoption as key forces shaping digital finance.

As per the latest Bitcoin news, Strategy founder Michael Saylor has floated the prospect of a “Bitcoin-backed stablecoin” that would pay a 7% yield and maintain a stable dollar value.

Saylor said that such a product would represent the “next step” following Bitcoin and digital credit. According to him, it would be part of a progression towards “digital money”, which would provide yield and stability.

Saylor mentioned the idea in a Binance interview, saying that one should imagine the mythical Bitcoin-backed stablecoin. Imagine you had a stablecoin paying 7%. The comment was featured in Bitcoin news outlets as a potentially novel way to capitalize on Bitcoin yields.

Bitcoin News – Leveraging Capital into Credit

Saylor has described Bitcoin as “digital capital”, which is volatile, but which appreciates over time, and which can be converted into “digital credit” – with products such as Strategy’s STRC preferred stock.

He noted that such products could enable “24/7 world markets for credit products.” As such, in the envisioned ecosystem, Bitcoin’s “capital appreciates, then that gets converted into credit instruments, then those get converted into digital money, and digital money is a digital currency with a yield.”

In essence, he outlined a potential hierarchy for a Bitcoin-based financial ecosystem: Bitcoin ➔ credit ➔ yield-bearing stablecoin.

According to the Bitcoin news, Saylor has also taken steps to increase Strategy’s balance sheet. In recent days, the firm has been buying up large amounts of Bitcoin.

According to the Form 8-K filed on October 5, 2026, the firm holds approximately 848,000 BTC, or about 4% of the circulating supply. Moreover, the firm has nearly $4.9 billion in USD reserves. Those reserves, set aside for dividends and debt, provide a buffer as Strategy rotates between Bitcoin accumulation and share buybacks.

In early September, the board increased the buyback program’s authorization to $2 billion. Overall, these figures represent a commitment to both Bitcoin and to buying back the firm’s treasury stock.

Yield, Stablecoin-Style – In Context

Beyond the hypothetical yield of the proposed stablecoin, Saylor has commented on the potential benefits of such a product. He noted that dollar-backed stablecoins typically only offer low yields, whereas a bitcoin-backed stablecoin could leverage the cryptocurrency’s yield potential.

Saylor highlighted Bitcoin’s potential to generate an annual yield of over 38% over the next five years. He added that a Bitcoin-backed stablecoin could potentially offer a yield of 10% to 12%.

He added that the concept had already garnered interest, referencing an exchange with Saturn, a “dual token economy” project which has a stablecoin (USDat) that is backed by Bitcoin. The idea, he said, was that investors should be able to “take the yield that’s inherent in Bitcoin and create a stablecoin that pays more than conventional stablecoins do.”

While no product was announced, the idea fits with the rest of the space, with STRC offering yield as well, though with a much smaller risk than Bitcoin itself.

Bitcoin News: Saylor Predicts Crypto Gold Rush

In the same interview, Saylor also spoke about the state of the crypto economy. He said that it was on the verge of a “gold rush”, with the total value of crypto assets potentially reaching “$3 trillion today to perhaps $120 trillion when 10% of the world’s assets are allocated to crypto.”

Part of the reasoning, he said, was Bitcoin’s “inherent scarcity.” Given the rate at which it is mined – and the rate at which it would be mined if Saylor were to get his way – there would be 99% of Bitcoin mined by 2035.

Furthermore, he expects that Strategy will continue to buy up Bitcoin: “We don’t have any particular target. We accumulate Bitcoin as we raise capital,” he said. On the regulatory front, he expects that more regulations will be introduced, but that they will bring institutional investors into the fold.

Notably, STRC has been accumulating large stakes from credit funds, and Strategy expects that to continue. These comments come as Strategy’s digital-credit products continue to gain institutional interest.

The latest Bitcoin news confirms that the firm’s cash reserves cover more than a year’s worth of preferred dividends. These, too, contribute to the firm’s potential to buy back STRC, with cash reserves totaling about $4.9 billion.

Overall, the firm has been buying up large amounts of Bitcoin and using some of its cash to buy back stock in recent weeks, in what appears to be a commitment to its strategy.
