  • Long positions accounted for $404.15 million of four-hour crypto liquidations.
  • Bitcoin recovered above $80,000 after briefly touching approximately $79,280.
  • Bitcoin ETFs finished the week with net inflows despite two consecutive outflow days.

Bitcoin price briefly fell below $80,000 on Saturday, October 24, as leveraged bullish positions faced heavy liquidations. BTC reached approximately $79,280 around 11:20 a.m. ET before recovering to $80,138 by 1 p.m. CoinGlass figures cited in the supplied reporting showed $436.44 million liquidated across crypto markets during the four hours ending at 1 p.m.

Bitcoin price decline leaves leveraged bulls exposed

Long positions accounted for $404.15 million of that total, or roughly 92.6%. These trades bet on rising prices and face forced closure when traders lack sufficient margin.

Two concentrated waves drove much of the damage. Long liquidations reached $208.21 million in the 15 minutes beginning at 10:15 a.m. ET. Another $131.17 million followed in the 15 minutes beginning at 11:15 a.m.

The Bitcoin price recovery later shifted pressure toward bearish positions. Shorts represented $8.35 million of the $10.62 million liquidated during the hour ending at 1:09 p.m. ET.

Across the earlier 24-hour snapshot, total liquidations reached $815.26 million and affected 201,012 traders. Crypto futures open interest fell 2.2% to $140.10 billion over the same period.

Ether accounted for $136.72 million of the four-hour liquidations, compared with Bitcoin’s $158.45 million. Binance recorded the largest individual liquidation over 24 hours: an $11.85 million ETH-USDT long.

Bitcoin price weakness follows two days of ETF withdrawals

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $137.94 million in net outflows on Friday, following Thursday’s $635.49 million withdrawal. BlackRock’s IBIT accounted for $110.34 million of Friday’s total, according to the reported SoSoValue figures.

Despite those exits, the funds finished the week with $304.73 million in net inflows. Earlier purchases therefore outweighed the final two sessions’ withdrawals.

The Bitcoin price decline coincided with softer ETF demand, but these figures do not establish what caused Saturday’s selling. ETF flows describe fund activity during trading sessions, while cryptocurrency markets continue operating through weekends.

Separately, BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes said he had closed Maelstrom’s directional positions amid macroeconomic and geopolitical concerns. He named ETH, ENA and UNI among assets sold, without disclosing position sizes or a timetable for returning.
