This Bitcoin price prediction looks at a market on edge. $BTC is trading near $62,988 after a red Friday session, down about 2% on the day. The drop comes right as several chart signals point to a shaky start to August.

BTC closed July up nearly 7.50%, close to the month's historical average gain of 7.36%. That happened even with rate-hike fears, an AI-driven sell-off, and a major wallet security breach hitting the market at the same time.

Now traders are watching a new set of warning signs. History says August has not been kind to BTC, and this year carries an extra wrinkle: it is a U.S. midterm election year, and $BTC has never closed that month in the green during one.

Why is Bitcoin flashing a sell signal right now?

Analyst Ali Charts pointed out that the TD Sequential indicator printed a sell signal on the daily chart just before August began. This tool has flagged past pullbacks in Bitcoin, though it does not guarantee the pattern repeats.TD Sequential indicator printed a sell signal

Crypto Rover added another layer to the warning. The trader noted that the world's largest cryptocurrency has dropped shortly after every Federal Reserve interest rate decision so far this year, and price action around the latest FOMC meeting followed the same script.

Neither signal promises a crash. They simply show that momentum has cooled off after a strong run, and traders are treating late July's dip as a test of nerves rather than a full reversal.BTC has dropped shortly after every Federal Reserve interest rate decision

What do Bitcoin's monthly and quarterly returns show?

Coinglass data gives useful context. August has an average return of +1.06% but a median of -6.99%, meaning big down months have pulled the average lower over the years. Only a handful of Augusts, like 2017 and 2020, were strongly positive.

The third quarter of 2026 is currently green after a rough second quarter that saw a drop of more than 14%. That gives some traders hope that a Q3 rally could carry into the rest of the year, even if August itself has a weak track record.Bitcoin monthly and quarterly returns

Are Bitcoin whales buying or selling?

Whale wallet tracking shared by Crypto Rover shows large holders placing buy orders in a wide band between $58,000 and $47,000.

That range sits well below the current price, suggesting whales are prepared for a deeper pullback before adding to positions.large holders placing buy orders

Derivatives data backs up a cautious mood. The Binance long/short account ratio sits at 2.24, and OKX shows 2.1, meaning more accounts are positioned long than short.

Options volume jumped 21.55% to $3.67 billion in the last 24 hours, a sign traders are hedging against sharp moves in either direction.

Liquidation data shows longs took the bigger hit over the past day, losing $92.78 million compared to $4.86 million for shorts, matching the recent red candle.

What else is moving the Bitcoin market?

A firmware flaw in Coldcard hardware wallets led to a theft of 594 BTC, worth around $38 million, from about 500 wallets in just 25 minutes. Coinkite has released a fix, but affected seed phrases cannot be repaired, and users are being told to move funds to new wallets.

Strategy, the largest corporate Bitcoin holder, told investors on its Q2 earnings call that it may sell up to $5 billion in bitcoin.

CEO Phong Le said the funds would go toward a dollar reserve, dividend and interest payments, and stock buybacks. The company has not resumed new bitcoin purchases in a month.

The Coin is still down more than 28% year to date, even after last month's bounce. It remains above the closely watched $60,000 support level for now.

Bitcoin price prediction: what could happen next?

None of these signals point to a certain outcome. This Bitcoin price prediction is not a promise of any specific move, but a TD Sequential sell signal, weak seasonal averages, and whale bids far below spot price all suggest caution is reasonable heading into August.

At the same time, Q3 remains green, and Bitcoin has held support above $60,000 despite the Coldcard hack and Strategy's sale announcement.

A break below $60,000 could open the door toward the whale accumulation zone near $58,000, while a recovery above $65,000 would weaken the bearish case.

Traders are also watching upcoming jobs data and talk of new spot BTC ETF activity, both of which could shift sentiment quickly in either direction.
