Centralized exchanges are witnessing a steep decline in Bitcoin‘s spot trading volumes. Data compiled by market observer Su Hu indicates an immense plunge of 81% from the heights of October 2025. The figures reveal a significant decrease in trading activities, signaling a diminished risk appetite among crypto market participants.

What Do Dropping Trading Volumes Indicate?

In October 2025, Binance reported a monthly spot trading volume of $198.6 billion. However, recent months have seen this figure tumble drastically to just $36.4 billion. When examining all centralized exchanges, the total spot trading volume in March 2026 was approximately $4.3 trillion.

This reflects a 48% decrease from the October 2025 peak and represents the lowest level since October 2024. Reports show a continuous weakening, with trading activity in April slumping to its lowest point over the past 25 months.

How Concentrated Is Market Liquidity?

Around 90% of market liquidity is now concentrated on a few major trading platforms. This indicates an increasing centralization of market participation as activities on smaller exchanges dwindle. By March 2026, Binance alone captured 32% of the global spot market share, demonstrating its significant influence over market liquidity.

The dwindling trading flows serve as a barometer of retail investor behavior, hinting at reduced participation. This situation suggests that a smaller group of significant players now dominates market activities.

Furthermore, recent months reveal that investors are gravitating towards other assets like stocks, gold, and commodities, which are viewed as more stable with clearer narratives, unlike the currently subdued crypto enthusiasm.

While reduced retail involvement is not entirely unfavorable, it often coincides with stronger players discreetly acquiring supply. Su Hu remarked on the challenges retail investors face in accessing crucial information, advising diversification across crypto assets while exploring secure alternatives.

Ethereum might be facing a narrative challenge beyond just weak price movement. The analysis cautions that Ethereum could experience prolonged sideways trading unless a compelling new narrative is developed. This is essential for attracting fresh capital, developer interest, and broader market alignment.
