The @SuiNetwork has passed 5 billion total transactions, a milestone for the Layer 1 blockchain developed by @Mysten_Labs. The cumulative count currently stands at 5.02 billion, and network traction has grown in recent weeks and months.
The milestone follows a steady climb. In July, Sui crossed 4.5 billion cumulative transactions, according to data from analytics platform Chainspect cited by Cointrust. By September, Chainspect data showed the network had processed about 4.8 billion transactions, with a seven-day average of around 80.3 transactions per second, KuCoin News reported.
Cumulative transaction counts include all activity since mainnet launch, covering token transfers, smart contract executions and decentralized application usage. Sui's mainnet went live in May 2023, according to Oak Research, meaning the network reached 5 billion transactions in a little over three years.
Transaction totals need careful reading. Bitcoinist noted that automated transactions can inflate totals, and that investors will want to see whether activity lines up with total value locked, stablecoin usage and real application demand. Larger and more established networks such as Ethereum and Solana have processed significantly higher totals over longer periods, as Cointrust has noted.
Sui's scalability rests largely on its architecture. According to Oak Research, the Mysticeti consensus upgrade went live on mainnet in July 2024 and was designed to cut latency sharply. Sui's own engineering blog says Mysticeti is the consensus protocol that powers Sui, with a later v2 release aimed at faster and lighter transaction processing.
Sui also uses parallel transaction execution and an object-centric data model, which are designed to deliver high throughput and low latency for decentralized applications.
For $SUI holders and developers, the 5 billion mark is a usage signal rather than a price catalyst. The next test is whether growing transaction volume translates into lasting economic activity across DeFi, gaming and stablecoin applications on the network.
