@Chainlink's official Reserve has crossed a notable milestone, surpassing 6 million $LINK tokens roughly one year after its launch in August 2025. The Reserve now holds approximately 60.05 million dollars worth of LINK, with a current market value of more than $87 million, and not a single token has been spent.
How the Reserve Works
The Chainlink Reserve is designed to support the long-term growth and sustainability of the Chainlink Network by accumulating LINK tokens using offchain revenue from large enterprises that are adopting the Chainlink standard and from onchain service usage. The mechanism behind this is known as Payment Abstraction. Payment Abstraction is onchain infrastructure that reduces friction by enabling users to pay for Chainlink services in their preferred form of payment, such as gas tokens and stablecoins, which are then programmatically converted to LINK using a combination of Chainlink services and decentralized exchange infrastructure.
The Reserve itself is an onchain smart contract on Ethereum and features a multi-day timelock as an additional security measure before any withdrawal requests are processed.Chainlink has said it does not expect any withdrawals from the reserve for multiple years, and the balance is expected to grow as more enterprise revenue is directed on-chain.
Steady Growth, Expanding Institutional Reach
The Chainlink Reserve added 373,791 LINK, worth more than $4.3 million, in September alone, bringing total holdings to 6.04 million LINK.The Reserve held 3.06 million LINK at the end of Q1, meaning its holdings have nearly doubled over the past six months.
Developments that have contributed to the Reserve's expansion include growing enterprise adoption of Chainlink's infrastructure, DTCC's approval of tokenization initiatives that route through Chainlink, UBS launching tokenized funds using the network, and Coinbase bridging billions in wrapped assets through Chainlink's infrastructure.Meanwhile, Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) now secures $82.39 billion worth of cross-chain tokens.
The Reserve's unspent balance signals a long-term, patient approach to network sustainability. Rather than deploying capital for short-term incentives, Chainlink continues to accumulate. The question for the market is how long that discipline holds as the Reserve's dollar value climbs.
