Coinbase Pro Returns Inside a Much Bigger Platform

Coinbase (@coinbase) has confirmed it will relaunch Coinbase Pro before the end of 2026, bringing back the professional trading brand more than two years after it was retired. This time, the platform sits inside Coinbase Global Exchange, a new unified structure built on the infrastructure of Deribit, the crypto options exchange Coinbase acquired in August 2025 for approximately $2.9 billion.

The rebuilt Coinbase Pro will cover spot, futures, perpetuals, options, and equities trading in a single interface, targeting high-volume and institutional traders. Spot margin trading with up to 10x leverage on major assets is also planned to roll out in the coming weeks, according to the company.

A Single Liquidity Pool Connecting US and Global Derivatives

The more significant structural change is what happens beneath the surface. Coinbase Financial Markets, the firm's US-regulated futures commission merchant, will connect eligible US institutional clients to global crypto derivatives liquidity through Coinbase Global Exchange. The company described the move at Token2049 Singapore as creating, for the first time, a single regulated liquidity pool spanning US and international derivatives markets.

The regulatory path was cleared by guidance the Commodity Futures Trading Commission issued in May, which allows Coinbase Financial Markets to bridge US clients with offshore derivatives markets. Previously, US institutions had to rely on offshore entities and multiple counterparties to access products such as options and perpetual contracts.

The Deribit technical integration itself completed on October 1, 2026, when Coinbase International Exchange moved to read-only mode and all trading activity shifted to Deribit's matching engine. As of early September, Deribit already held roughly $39.26 billion in derivatives open interest across the Coinbase group, representing around 96.6% of the combined total.

The rollout is staggered. Eligible non-US traders are expected to gain options access within weeks. US retail users are expected to follow later in the year. Registration is already open.
