Coinbase stock surged for a second consecutive session, driven by a resurgent Bitcoin price and renewed momentum for US crypto legislation following a White House event. The stock, trading under the ticker COIN, ended Wednesday at $160.20, marking a 9.55% increase from its previous close of $146.23. Momentum continued in premarket trading Thursday, with shares reaching $172.64—a further gain of 7.77%. In under 24 hours, Coinbase shares climbed about 18% from Tuesday’s closing value.

White House event spotlights regulatory momentum

The latest policy push emerged after Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong attended a White House meeting focused on the future of US crypto regulation. The session was also attended by President Donald Trump and leading regulators, as well as key figures from the digital asset industry.

During the event, Trump urged Congress to pass a “fair version” of the CLARITY Act, legislation aimed at providing comprehensive rules for digital assets and clarifying which agencies—the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)—should regulate different products. Although the CLARITY Act remains pending in the Senate, lawmakers are expected to revisit the bill following the August recess.

President Trump called on Congress to adopt balanced legislation that would clarify digital asset rules, potentially laying the groundwork for clearer oversight by the SEC and CFTC.

If passed, updated regulatory policies could deliver considerable benefits for Coinbase. Regulatory certainty may simplify the launch of new trading products and expand services for institutional investors while removing persistent legal ambiguities that have challenged listed US crypto exchanges.

Coinbase operates as the largest publicly traded cryptocurrency exchange in the United States, offering spot trading, custody services, and institutional solutions for a wide range of digital assets.

Bitcoin, macro conditions provide additional momentum

A significant rebound in Bitcoin price added to the bullish sentiment. Bitcoin surpassed $68,000 on Wednesday and continued its upward movement on Thursday. The rise in BTC contributed to broader gains across US-listed crypto stocks, strengthening the outlook for market participants.

Broader macroeconomic factors also played a part. The US Treasury stated it would double the size of certain long-duration bond buybacks, lifting some investor pressure. As a result, long-term yields dropped, prompting increased risk-taking in stocks, gold, and cryptocurrencies.

Coinbase diversifies amid sector growth

Much of Coinbase’s performance is no longer tied solely to Bitcoin trading volumes. For the second quarter, the company reported $555 million in subscription and services revenue, accounting for 48% of its net revenue. Its share of global crypto trading volume touched a record 10.3%, underlining its growing footprint in the sector.

Despite the rapid gains this week, COIN remains well below its October 2025 peak of $387.27. Market participants are now watching to see if Bitcoin can maintain its momentum and if regulatory efforts such as the CLARITY Act will convert into actual laws.

Regulatory clarity and a strong digital asset market could help Coinbase expand its product range while reducing legal uncertainty that often affects its valuation.
