CryptoCompass editorial visual for markets coverage.

Key Insights:

  • Coinbase news: the exchange’s new Deribit matching engine can process over 100,000 transactions per second, aiming for faster execution and deeper liquidity.
  • Base activity has slowed, but the network generated over $2 million in revenue in July.
  • The COIN stock price trades near $150, with rising call open interest pointing to bullish trader positioning.

Fresh Coinbase news points to a major upgrade, exciting investors and institutions. Coinbase has expanded its transaction capacity with a new Deribit matching engine. Coinbase revealed that this new engine can process over 100,000 transactions per second.

This Coinbase news comes as the exchange prepares for broader crypto and stablecoin adoption. The exchange rolled out this next-gen engine on dedicated infrastructure, targeting deeper liquidity and lower matching latency.

The Deribit matching engine will execute with sub-millisecond speeds, allowing traders and investors to capitalize on crypto price volatility. So, why is this exciting Coinbase news?

Coinbase has built this engine to handle bursts when markets get spicy, give liquidity providers a better shot, and tighten spreads. It’s worth noting that some products have a built-in speed bump that briefly delays aggressive orders so market makers can respond.

The company has also moved Deribit onto the same core execution setup as Coinbase International Exchange. Perpetuals are set to migrate later this year, so that options and perps share the infrastructure.

Coinbase News: Base Activity Drops Despite Increasing Revenue

Base transaction activity has remained at monthly lows even as the derivatives side gets this boost. Onchain numbers from Token Terminal on Coinbase’s L2 show the daily active addresses (DAA) have dropped to an all-time low of 3.6K.

User operations per second (UOPS) on the Base chain dropped by 11.4% over the past 30 days to 229.73 million.

Nevertheless, DefiLlama Data shows that Base raked in over $2 million in revenue in July, coming in second to Robinhood at $3.59 million. Together, Robinhood and Base accounted for 84% of the total revenue generated by the top 10 Ethereum L2 chains in July.

COIN Stock Holds Consolidation Near $150

COIN stock extended its consolidation near $150, with the price ranging after the sharp drop from higher levels earlier in the year. COIN’s price was exchanged at $148.44 at press time.

Recent closes have hovered around the $148–$153 zone, with support holding near the recent lows and resistance capping upside.

COIN trading volume has remained relatively stable, further supporting the sideways price action. The engine launch has given a concrete operational win. However, for COIN stockholders, the Coinbase news has done little to pull the stock out of its range-bound grind.

COIN price currently sits near the bottom of the range, which could increase the likelihood of a bounce in the near term.

Data shows the total COIN open interest climbed 2.2% to 1.1 million contracts over the past 5 days. This suggests an increasing interest in COIN among traders.

Of this total Open Interest, Call contracts account for 651,097, compared to 446,790 Put contracts. This discrepancy suggests that Call Open Interest is higher than Put Open Interest, indicating a Long buildup driven by bullish sentiment around COIN stock.

If the sentiment holds, COIN price could likely bounce towards the upper boundary of the range near $180.

Coinbase is positioning the new matching engine as the foundation for bigger institutional flow and tighter markets. Deeper liquidity and lower latency have become the direct goals.

Traders who care about execution quality have a clearer reason to stay on the platform. The next test is whether the new engine translates into visible volume and tighter books while the stock decides its next move.
