Crypto Prices Rally: Here’s Why BTC, ETH, XRP, & Others are Soaring Today
CryptoCompass editorial visual for altcoins coverage.

Key Insights:

  • Crypto prices show the long-awaited market bottom might be gradually setting in.
  • The latest White House crypto meeting with industry executives sends bullish signs to market whales.
  • BTC price jumped as the ETF market recorded a major revival led by BlackRock.

The broader crypto price outlook has flipped bullish overnight in an unexpected twist. For a crypto rally that has stalled in the past few months, the BTC price has shifted the overall outlook. Altcoins are also joining the emerging uptrend.

Crypto Rally and the BTC Price Action

Over the past 24 hours, crypto prices pushed the entire market capitalization above the $2.2 trillion threshold. This marked one of the best weekly closes that the entire market has seen since the start of the year.

BTC price led the rally, jumping 11.78% as of writing to $71,916.32. This marked the highest point in the valuation in the past 24 hours. Alongside this price action, other metrics are also soaring. The daily volume skyrocketed by 263% to $61.98 billion, per data from CoinMarketCap.

The current outlook for Bitcoin is forcing a trimming of the losses the coin has accrued over the past year, with the Year-to-Date (YTD) uptick now at 17.92%. This metric jumped as high as 40% as when BTC price traded below $60,000.

Altcoins are not far behind in the crypto rally, with each relying on Bitcoin’s strength to pare off the losses accrued in the past week. Ethereum jumped by more than 19% to break the $2,200 resistance level. At the time of writing, the top altcoin was changing hands for $2,285.42 with a YTD loss now trimmed to 22.97%.

Solana also joined the crypto price outperformers, jumping 13% overnight to hit a monthly high of $87.48. Other altcoins, including XRP, Binance Coin, and Dogecoin, also rallied by 14.73%, 6.84%, and 9.48%, respectively.

The White House Summit Impact on Crypto Prices

One of the most important drivers of the August 20 crypto rally was the White House meeting with industry executives a day earlier. The White House crypto meeting featured President Donald Trump, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, SEC Chairman Paul Atkins, and CFTC Chairman Mike Selig, among others.

At the meeting, President Trump reaffirmed his focus on making the United States the crypto capital of the world. Rapid Response 47 tweeted that the Coinbase CEO also noted the administration has delivered on most of its crypto campaign promises over the past year. The official White House Rapid Response account highlighted the GENIUS Act as a notable signal.

The CLARITY Act is still stalling in the Senate. The executives’ backing of the bill has sent a positive note to crypto investors, as shown in the BTC price.

With no defined timeline in mind, the US SEC has made a definitive effort to introduce its own pro-crypto guidance. Thus, it has set an alternative pathway to regulate the entire industry.

Overall, the United States has switched from its extreme anti-crypto agenda, with regulatory agencies now backing blockchain-focused innovations.

Bitcoin and Altcoin ETF Inflows Shake Off Short Sellers

One very visible trigger of the extended crypto winter is the sustained outflow of capital from ETF products. However, this week, the intense capital flight from BlackRock and other investors has returned.

According to data shared by Trader T on X, Bitcoin ETFs alone saw an inflow of $517.20 million. BlackRock has led other asset issuers, with $284.74 million in assets. Fidelity Investments, Ark Invest, and Bitwise also recorded positive inflows for the August 19 trading session.

With the crypto rally, the industry saw extreme liquidation, with a $1.4 billion short squeeze. With this leverage flushed out, BTC price saw a notable boost, which many speculate might mark the market bottom going forward.
