Deutsche Bank crypto custody is moving into the market as the German lender plans to offer institutions and corporate clients a way to hold and transfer Bitcoin, Ether, and selected stablecoins later this year, pending regulatory approval, with Germany set to be the first market for the service.
Deutsche Bank Crypto Custody Targets Institutional Clients
As per the latest updateDeutsche Bank is preparing to launch its crypto custody service for institutional and corporate clients later this year, subject to the required regulatory approvals.
The German bank said the service will initially support Bitcoin, Ether, and selected stablecoins, including USDC, EURC, and EURAU. Clients will be able to hold their digital assets and transfer them to third parties through infrastructure managed by Deutsche Bank.
According to the update, the bank will manage customers’ wallets and private keys, meaning clients will not need to build their own custody systems to hold these assets. Notably, the initial customer base will include corporates, asset managers, hedge funds, custodians, brokerage firms, and sovereign institutions. Deutsche Bank said these groups already operate within its Corporate Bank and Investment Bank ecosystem and compliance framework.
The service is expected to first become available to customers in Germany. Deutsche Bank said its digital asset offering could grow over time based on client demand, regulatory requirements, risk management, and its internal product approval process.

It is worth noting that the bank also has tokenized financial instruments on its roadmap, showing that the planned service could eventually cover more than cryptocurrencies and stablecoins.
Digital Asset Custody Uses Key Security Measures
Deutsche Bank has been working on its digital asset custody plans for several years. The bank previously partnered with Taurus to support its cryptocurrency custody plans for institutional clients.
For the new Deutsche Bank crypto custody service, security will be a major part of how the system operates. According to the bank, the setup will use hardware-based protection for private keys, multi-person approvals, separate warm and cold storage environments, as well as backup and recovery controls.
Selected external technology and infrastructure providers will also manage specific technical parts of the service. These measures are designed to allow the bank to manage digital assets within its existing approach to security and compliance. At the same time, institutional customers can gain access to cryptocurrency custody without having to create and maintain the technical infrastructure themselves.
Gerald Podobnik, Co-Head of Commercial Banking at Deutsche Bank, said digital assets are not a replacement for the traditional financial system but a complement to existing market infrastructure.
He added that these new services can operate alongside existing financial systems while benefiting from the trust, security and protection measures provided by regulated financial institutions.
Deutsche Bank Expands Its Crypto Plans
The Deutsche Bank crypto custody launch comes as large financial institutions continue to explore services connected to digital assets. Deutsche Bank said the move reflects growing activity around digital assets among financial institutions, supported by regulatory developments in Europe and a more positive environment for cryptocurrencies in the United States.
Meanwhile, Italian banking group UniCredit is also considering changes to its digital asset offerings, including early plans to expand its custody and brokerage capabilities.
According to the reports cited in the supplied material, Deutsche Bank has also been selecting technology partners to provide the infrastructure needed to hold and facilitate digital asset transactions.
The bank said its supported asset list could increase in the future. Any expansion will depend on customer demand, regulatory requirements, risk controls and internal approval.
For now, the focus remains on providing digital asset custody to institutional and corporate customers. The initial offering will cover Bitcoin custody, Ethereum custody and selected stablecoins, while Deutsche Bank continues to assess other parts of the digital asset market.
The launch gives the German lender a direct role in the custody side of the cryptocurrency market, while keeping the service within its regulated banking operations.
