“Do Only Good Everyday” is a phrase the Dogecoin community uses to describe its giving culture, built by spelling out the letters of DOGE. It points to two habits that have defined the memecoin since its early days: tipping each other small amounts of DOGE online, and pooling coins for causes.

Shibes, as holders call themselves, sent the Jamaican bobsled team to the 2014 Winter Olympics, funded clean water in Kenya and sponsored a NASCAR car. In April 2026, the Dogecoin Foundation and partners donated 1 million DOGE to a U.S. dog charity.

How Did Dogecoin’s Tipping Culture Start?

Dogecoin’s tipping habit began on Reddit, where users rewarded good posts with small amounts of DOGE.

The main tool was dogetipbot, a service that worked on Reddit and Twitch. Users sent DOGE to each other by typing a simple command in a comment. Because each coin was worth a fraction of a cent, tipping felt playful rather than like a payment. In 2014, creator Josh Mohland said 56,000 Reddit users had traded about $150,000 worth of Dogecoin tips through the bot.

What Happened To Dogetipbot?

In May 2017, Mohland announced he was bankrupt and shut dogetipbot down. Many users lost the Dogecoin they had stored in the service. The bot was custodial, meaning it held users’ coins for them, so its failure left them with no way to recover their funds. The episode remains a common example of why many crypto users prefer self-custody wallets, where only they control the keys.

Which Charity Drives Made Dogecoin Famous?

A handful of 2014 campaigns turned Dogecoin’s giving culture into headline news.

  • Jamaican bobsled team: On January 19, 2014, the community launched a fundraiser with a $50,000 goal to help the team reach the Sochi Winter Olympics after it qualified but could not afford the trip. About $36,000 worth of DOGE came in by the second day, and DOGE’s exchange rate against Bitcoin rose 50%.
  • Doge4Water: The Dogecoin Foundation, led by Eric Nakagawa, worked with Charity: Water to build a well in Kenya’s Tana River basin. The goal was 40 million DOGE, about $30,000 at the time, before World Water Day on March 22. More than 4,000 donors gave, including an anonymous user who sent 14 million DOGE, worth about $11,000, in a single tweet to a tipping bot.
  • NASCAR sponsorship: On March 25, 2014, the community raised 67.8 million DOGE, around $55,000, to sponsor NASCAR driver Josh Wise, whose car carried a Dogecoin design at Talladega.
  • Service dogs: The community also gave $25,000 to a UK service dog organization.

Giving In 2026: The AKC Humane Fund

The tradition continues. On April 21, 2026, MoonPay, the Dogecoin Foundation and its corporate arm, House of Doge, donated 1 million DOGE, about $95,000 at the time, to the AKC Humane Fund. The money supports:

  • Shelter help for pet owners affected by domestic violence
  • Stray dog rescues
  • Veterinary care for families facing financial hardship

MoonPay Commerce now processes ongoing DOGE donations to the fund. Dogecoin Foundation Director Tim Stebbing said Dogecoin “has always been about community and doing good.”

Why Does Dogecoin Work Well For Tipping?

Dogecoin’s technical design supports small, frequent payments.

  • Fast blocks: The network adds a new block about every minute, ten times faster than Bitcoin’s 10-minute target, so tips confirm quickly.
  • Low fees: Fees are typically low compared with many major chains, which makes sending a few cents’ worth of DOGE practical.
  • Proof-of-work security: Miners secure the chain through proof-of-work. Dogecoin is merge-mined with Litecoin through AuxPoW, which lets miners secure both networks with the same work.
  • Steady issuance: Each block pays miners 10,000 DOGE, and there is no supply cap. That adds about 5.26 billion new DOGE each year.

A low price per coin also helped. In 2014, Forbes reported that the community saw DOGE as a tipping currency for the internet and wanted to keep its price low to support that use.

Conclusion

Dogecoin’s “Do Only Good Everyday” culture rests on fast, low-fee payments and a community used to giving. Shibes tipped about $150,000 through dogetipbot by 2014, raised money for the Jamaican bobsled team, Kenyan water wells and a NASCAR car, and in April 2026 donated 1 million DOGE to the AKC Humane Fund. DOGE traded at about $0.0796 on October 15.
