Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX, is diving back into Ethereum with a new buying strategy, onchain data indicates. Just a month after trimming his Ethereum (ETH) assets, he has begun to rebuild his holdings. The strategic move, observed in July, comes amidst heightened interest from other prominent investors and institutions.
What Prompted Hayes’ ETH Accumulation?
According to blockchain analysis firm Lookonchain, Hayes kicked off his acquisition on July 15 with a purchase of 1,293 ETH, which included a transfer of 646 ETH from Galaxy Digital. The cumulative purchases of over 1,900 ETH, equating to approximately $3.7 million, mark a significant stake for Hayes. This shift follows his substantial sell-off of 6,000 ETH in June, which incurred a $600,000 loss, capturing the interest of many who follow his activities as a hint of market trends.
Why Are Whale Moves Intensifying?
Whales are again in play, with notable wallet movements indicating a rise in Ethereum acquisitions. A previously inactive wallet, labeled as ‘0x4cee,’ acquired 10,501 ETH for 20 million USDC. Simultaneously, another wallet, ‘0xf23c,’ expanded its stake by withdrawing 12,800 ETH from Binance. These purchases correspond to a rising pattern of staking, which could limit Ethereum’s liquid availability and influence price movements.
The current Ethereum staking percentage has leaped to 33% of the total supply, as per ethereum.org. This increase signifies potentially strong market conditions favoring Ethereum holders aiming for long-term gains.
BlackRock’s introduction of its iShares Staked Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHB) through Nasdaq adds further momentum. This regulated fund provides investors exposure to Ethereum’s price and staking rewards, emphasizing the growing institutional interest.
- Arthur Hayes resumed ETH accumulation with over 1,900 ETH; previously sold 6,000 ETH in June.
- Wallet ‘0x4cee’ reactivated with a purchase of 10,501 ETH.
- The staking trend is reinforced by new entities like ‘0xf23c’ staking 12,800 ETH.
ETHB by BlackRock is crafted to mirror ether’s market performance and staking returns, targeting institutional participants. This initiative signifies ongoing advancements in the integration between traditional financial institutions and the crypto world.
These market dynamics keep Ethereum in the spotlight for major entities in both the cryptocurrency and traditional finance sectors.
