Liquid staking protocol and decentralized neobank @ether_fi has officially unveiled its native dollar-pegged currency, ether.fi USD, built on whitelabel infrastructure provided by synthetic dollar protocol @ethena_labs. The announcement marks a significant step in EtherFi's evolution from a restaking platform into a full-stack financial product.
How the Whitelabel Arrangement Works
Under the deal, Ethena handles the entire backend, covering issuance, reserve management, delta-neutral hedging, custody, and compliance. EtherFi retains its own brand and user relationship while Ethena runs the infrastructure that keeps the token pegged and redeemable. This is the same model Ethena has deployed for other protocols: Jupiter launched JupUSD on Solana through the service, and MegaETH rolled out USDm the same way.
Ethena's whitelabel platform, described as a stablecoin-as-a-service offering, allows any blockchain, protocol, or application to issue fully customized, yield-bearing stablecoins while leveraging Ethena's audited delta-neutral hedging engine and liquidity pools. The delta-neutral strategy works by holding crypto collateral, such as staked ETH, while shorting equivalent perpetual futures positions to hedge price exposure and maintain the dollar peg.
What It Means for EtherFi
EtherFi currently has over $300 million in stablecoin assets operating within its ecosystem. By launching a native stablecoin, that existing liquidity is converted directly into protocol-native capital rather than sitting in third-party instruments. This removes a structural inefficiency that has long benefited external stablecoin issuers at the expense of the platforms attracting the deposits in the first place.
Critically, the move also gives EtherFi the ability to capture float interest yield on its user deposits. Previously, that yield flowed to whichever stablecoin issuer held the underlying reserves. With ether.fi USD, EtherFi reclaims that revenue stream. Combined with the broader neobank direction the protocol has been pursuing, the stablecoin positions EtherFi to build a more vertically integrated financial product on top of its restaking base.
The launch adds EtherFi to a growing roster of DeFi protocols choosing to mint their own digital dollars rather than rely on external issuers, a trend that underscores how stablecoin infrastructure is increasingly becoming a competitive battleground across the industry.
