Network Activity at Its Busiest Since March
Ethereum recorded 989,500 active addresses in a single 24-hour window, according to data from Santiment, marking the network's busiest stretch since March. The active-address count surged 147% in a single day, jumping from 377,381 on August 8 to 932,847 on August 9.The increase in active addresses occurred while $ETH traded within a relatively narrow range near $1,870. The divergence between rising on-chain activity and subdued price action is a recurring theme for Ethereum in 2026.
The increase in on-chain activity has so far coincided with relatively subdued price performance, showing that higher network usage has not necessarily translated into a sustained increase in ETH's market value.Network activity does not automatically translate into token demand. A bank tokenizing a fund on Ethereum is not required to buy ETH, and the value it generates does not flow mechanically into the token price.
ETFs, Stablecoins, and RWAs Driving Usage
Several structural forces appear to be pulling more participants onto the network. A major catalyst behind the spike is renewed appetite for US spot Ethereum ETFs. Net inflows into these products hit approximately $245 million during a single week in early August, extending a streak of five consecutive positive weeks.BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) and Fidelity's Wise Origin Ethereum Fund (FETH) have been the primary magnets for that capital.
Real-world asset tokenization is also playing a growing role. According to RWA.xyz data, distributed RWA value on Ethereum was recently in the range of $17 billion, representing a portion of the overall on-chain RWA market.Stablecoin transfer volumes on the network have remained in the hundreds of billions of dollars on a monthly basis. Together, these use cases are anchoring more capital and activity on Ethereum's base layer, even as the token price lags behind the network's growing utility. Real economic activity on the network, particularly stablecoin settlement, tokenized cash, and institutional RWAs, is scaling, but fee compression, Layer-2 value leakage, and modest net issuance raise the bar for throughput to translate into durable protocol-level economics.
