Ethereum is trading at $2,373.40 on October 15, 2026. That is down 5.01% in 24 hours, or about $125 per coin.

The drop came after a hot US inflation report. September CPI rose 0.6%, higher than forecasts. Traders now worry the Fed could raise rates again.

Why Is Ethereum Price Dropping Today?

Inflation is the main trigger. When CPI beats forecasts, traders expect tighter policy, and they often sell risky assets first.

Per CryptoQuant, the odds of a rate hike climbed from 17% to almost 30% over the week. Crypto reacted fast.

Here is the market snapshot from CoinGlass:

Futures volume is more than 16 times spot volume. Most of the action is in leveraged trades, and that makes sharp moves more likely.

How Much ETH Was Liquidated After the CPI Report?

A lot. CryptoQuant said $106 million in ETH longs were wiped out on Binance in one hour. It was the largest wave in six months.

Santiment, citing CoinGlass, said ETH led all liquidations. About $283M in ETH positions were hit, against $196M in BTC.

Longs took almost all of the pain. Most traders were leaning up. The long/short account ratio was 3.1391 on Binance and 2.38 on OKX.

Binance top traders were long too: 2.6179 by accounts and 1.4266 by positions. The overall 24h ratio sits at 0.9286.

Did Traders Cut Their ETH Positions?

Not really. Santiment noted that open interest in dollars fell about 11% from October 4 to October 14. Ethereum price fell by the same 11%.

In coins, open interest was 6.23M ETH on both dates. It stayed between 5.97M and 6.47M the whole time.

So the dollar chart looks like deleveraging, but positions mostly stayed put. That is why the flush hurt.

Will the Fed Raise Interest Rates in October 2026?

The next Fed meeting is on October 28. The current target range is 3.75% to 4.00%.

A hold is still the favorite. But hike odds have jumped from 17.7% a week ago to 29.3% now.

Producer price data (PPI) is also due today at 8:30 AM ET. The previous reading was 5.4%, and the forecast is 5.3%. A hotter number could add more pressure.

Are Ethereum ETFs Seeing Outflows?

Yes. According to SoSoValue, US spot Ethereum ETFs saw $130 million in net outflows. BlackRock's ETHA led with $110 million.

Farside data shows net outflows in every session from October 1 to October 12. Then came another $129.5M on October 14.

There was also bad news on the product side. VanEck filed a Form RW with the SEC on October 14, withdrawing its proposed Lido stETH ETF.

What Is Ethereum's Key Support Level Now?

ETH is sitting on its $2,350 support zone. Traders are also watching $2,300 for signs of stabilization.

My own read is that $2,350 may not hold. If it breaks, a retest of the $2,200 zone looks likely before any reversal.

From the current price, $2,200 is about 7% lower. That is not a forecast, just a level many traders will watch.

Ethereum Price Prediction: Will ETH Drop to $2,200?

Here is how the setups look right now:

Scenario

What Needs to Happen

Level to Watch

Bearish

$2,350 breaks, ETF outflows continue, hike odds keep rising

$2,300, then $2,200

Neutral

Price chops near support, PPI lands close to forecast

$2,350 to $2,300

Bullish

Inflation data cools, hike fears fade, ETF flows turn positive

Reclaim $2,350

The short-term tilt looks bearish. Heavy long liquidations, steady ETF selling, and rate fears all point the same way.

Still, markets can turn quickly. A softer PPI or a calmer Fed tone could flip the mood.

What Could Help ETH Bounce Higher?

Trader Merlijn pointed out that the altcoin has bounced off its 2017 all-time high zone four times. Each bounce ended between +44% and +237%.

Past Bounce

Gain

Smallest

+44.13%

Second

+176.52%

Third

+229.71%

Largest

+236.70%

The chart also marks a 2026 bottom and asks where the current bounce will end. This is one trader's chart, not a promise. Past bounces do not guarantee a new one.

On-chain moves also draw attention. Arkham said Arthur Hayes moved $19.35M of ETH to an unlabelled address. He still holds $27.1M on-chain, including $17.4M of ETH and staked ETH.

Over two years, he sent $298.1M between his own wallets and $68.5M to unlabelled addresses.

A wallet transfer does not always mean selling. It is something to watch, nothing more.

Is Ethereum Bullish or Bearish Right Now?

Ethereum looks weak in the near term. Inflation, rate fears, and ETF outflows are all weighing on price.

The levels to watch are $2,350, $2,300, and $2,200. What the Fed does on October 28 may matter most.
