Ethereum is approaching a potentially bullish “golden cross” between its key moving averages, but faces strong resistance before confirmation of a decisive trend shift.

Golden cross setup nears, but resistance holds

ETH is currently trading around $1,874, with the 50-day moving average turning upward at approximately $1,824 and the 100-day moving average still declining near $1,919. The gap between these two moving averages has narrowed both ways, setting up conditions for a golden cross if the 50-day crosses above the 100-day average.

A golden cross occurs when a short-term moving average breaks above a longer-term one, suggesting recent positive price action is starting to influence the broader trend. However, analysts consider these crossovers to be lagging indicators, typically confirming improvements that have already been established in price action.

ETH must maintain its recent recovery momentum to push through resistance and enable the 50-day moving average to cross above the 100-day level for the golden cross to be realized.

Since July, Ethereum has repeatedly met stiff resistance between $1,900 and $1,950. A descending resistance line connecting recent highs has intensified this barrier. The 100-day moving average at $1,919 adds further significance to this range, making a break above $1,920–$1,950 crucial for further upward movement.

Support and breakout levels in focus

Momentum indicators show limited advantage to either buyers or sellers, with the Relative Strength Index (RSI) near 49.8, reflecting a neutral stance. On the downside, the first key support is the climbing 50-day moving average at $1,824. If ETH loses this level, it could slip into the $1,750–$1,800 range and potentially delay any golden cross formation.

Even if ETH successfully completes the golden cross, the next significant hurdle remains the 200-day moving average at $2,132. This long-term trend line has historically been a critical level for confirming wider market shifts.

While the emerging golden cross could reinforce confidence in Ethereum’s ongoing price recovery, analysts indicate that breaking resistance above $1,950 is essential for this technical formation to support a sustainable bullish trend.

If ETH consolidates above $1,950, the golden cross may back an already strengthening structure rather than signal the beginning of upward momentum on its own.
