Ethereum News: BitMine Buys ETH, Fidelity Moves $500M, Staking Surges

Ethereum news today shows strong institutional activity even as the ETH price stays under pressure. BitMine expanded its treasury with another large ETH purchase, Fidelity-linked wallets shifted nearly $500 million in Ethereum, and a fresh Binance withdrawal was routed straight into staking.

Arthur Hayes booked a loss on a short-term trade, and the validator queue swelled to 2.5 million ETH. Together, today's Ethereum news points to long-term conviction alongside short-term volatility.

BitMine Adds Another 10,464 ETH to Its Treasury

A wallet tied to BitMine added 10,464 tokens, worth roughly $19.48 million, through FalconX, according to on-chain trackers Onchain Lens and Lookonchain.

The purchase pushes BitMine's holdings past 4.8% of Ethereum's circulating supply, keeping it the largest publicly traded Ethereum treasury. Reports link the buying to Fundstrat's Tom Lee, who has backed large-scale accumulation.

Continued buying at this size, even during a soft price environment, suggests institutions view current levels as an accumulation opportunity rather than a reason to step back — a recurring theme in Ethereum news today.

Fidelity Transfers Nearly $500 Million Worth of Ethereum

Fidelity-linked wallets moved 260,000 ETH, worth approximately $499.55 million, into three freshly funded addresses first set up by Fidelity six months earlier.

The transfer split into roughly 95,000 ETH ($182.53M), 87,000 ETH ($167.23M), and 78,000 ETH ($149.79M), based on Arkham data.

Since the receiving wallets were created by Fidelity itself, this looks like an internal custody reorganization rather than a move toward an exchange. Even so, transfers of this size draw attention, since large custodial shifts often precede changes in how institutions manage exposure.

Fresh Staking Activity Signals Long-Term Confidence

A separate wallet pulled 4,950 tokens, worth about $9.34 million, out of Binance and staked all of it through Lido, per Nansen data. Moving coins from an exchange into staking typically reduces liquidity, since staked tokens are locked up rather than ready to sell.

This fits a broader pattern: rather than exiting, holders are choosing to lock in staking yield, reinforcing that near-term price dips aren't shaking long-term confidence in the network.

Timeline: Ethereum Events Today
  • ~19 hours ago: Wallet withdrew 4,950 coins from Binance and staked via Lido

  • ~13 hours ago: Fidelity moved 260,000 coins into three new wallets

  • ~11 hours ago: BitMine purchased another 10,464 coins through FalconX

  • ~6 hours ago: Arthur Hayes transferred 2,364 coins to Cumberland and Galaxy Digital

  • Current market: Validator queue reaches 2.5 million coins with a 43-day wait

Arthur Hayes Sells Ethereum at a $241K Loss

BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes deposited 2,364.38 ETH into Cumberland and Galaxy Digital over two hours, receiving about 4.3 million USDC in return. The average sale price was roughly $1,821 per ETH, a loss of about $241,000, or 5.3%.

Lookonchain noted Hayes had earlier bought near $1,923, so this sale followed a purchase at a higher price. High-profile trades like this move short-term sentiment, but one trader's loss-making exit doesn't define where the broader market is headed, even as Ethereum news today skews bullish on the institutional side.

Ethereum Validator Queue Hits 2.5 Million ETH

Ethereum's validator entry queue has climbed to about 2.5 million tokens, with new validators facing roughly a 43-day activation wait, per Beaconcha.in data cited by Sygnum Bank. Around 41.2 million tokens are currently staked, equal to 33.8% of the circulating supply.

Sygnum's Thomas Brunner explained that part of the backlog reflects existing validators topping up and compounding stake after last year's Pectra upgrade rather than purely new demand, since Pectra raised the per-validator cap to 2,048 tokens without raising the daily entry rate.

More telling, he said, is the nearly empty exit queue, which shows holders staying put. Brunner also flagged validator privacy as a lingering barrier for institutions, since deposit addresses, validators, and withdrawal credentials are all publicly traceable today.

What This Update Means for Investors?

Taken together, this Ethereum news today reflects a market where institutional accumulation, treasury buying, and staking participation stay healthy despite choppy short-term price action.

BitMine and Fidelity's large wallet activity, plus fresh Binance-to-Lido staking flows, point to sustained conviction among long-term holders, and the near-empty exit queue reinforces that picture.

Arthur Hayes' loss-making trade is a reminder that short-term volatility hasn't gone away, but it doesn't offset the broader on-chain trend.

Investors following Ethereum news today should watch ETF flows, staking activity, treasury accumulation, and whale transactions as the clearest signals for the ETH's next move.
