Ethereum gained roughly 60% during the third quarter, according to market data cited by PrimeXBT, making Q3 one of ETH’s strongest quarterly performances on record.

Institutional demand has also remained supportive. US spot Ethereum ETFs recorded about $287.5 million in net inflows over the five trading days through Sept. 29, while tracked funds held roughly 5.91 million ETH worth $24.17 billion.

But the rally has one clear problem: ETH has repeatedly struggled to hold above $2,800.

$2,800 Is Still the Key Level

Ethereum recently pushed above $2,800 but quickly fell back, reinforcing that area as the most important short-term resistance.

Coinpaper has already tracked ETH’s repeated failures around $2,800, with the next major upside target around $3,000 if buyers can finally secure a convincing breakout.

That makes the Q4 setup relatively straightforward.

If ETH breaks and holds above $2,800, the market could quickly turn its attention toward $3,000-$3,050.

Ethereum ETF flows remain one of the stronger parts of the setup.

On Sept. 25 alone, spot ETH ETFs recorded approximately $87 million in net inflows, extending a run of positive sessions after several sharp outflow days earlier in the month.

That fits with the broader institutional trend Coinpaper highlighted in its recent analysis of Ethereum outperforming Bitcoin while ETF demand remained strong.

Still, ETF demand does not guarantee a breakout.

Can the Rally Continue?

The bullish scenario is simple: ETH holds above roughly $2,650, clears $2,800 and pushes toward $3,000.

A neutral scenario would keep Ethereum between approximately $2,600 and $2,800, allowing the market to consolidate after its strong Q3.

The bearish case becomes more convincing if ETH loses the $2,600 area while broader risk markets weaken.
