Key takeaways
- Glamsterdam targets 200-million gas limit on Hoodi testnet
- Ethereum's October 26 upgrade precedes unscheduled mainnet activation
- ETH tests $2,400 as traders eye $2,600 recovery
Ethereum is approaching a major scaling milestone as developers prepare to raise the Hoodi testnet's gas limit to 200 million on October 26, even as ETH struggles to recover from a broader October selloff.
The Ethereum Foundation confirmed that Glamsterdam will activate on Hoodi at 17:42:48 UTC, following its October 6 rollout on Sepolia. The upgrade introduces changes intended to improve block production, transaction execution and network efficiency, but developers have not scheduled its mainnet launch.
ETH traded around $2,400-$2,425 on October 18, down roughly 11% from its early-October high near $2,726. That leaves Ethereum testing an important support region while developers advance one of the network's most substantial scaling efforts.
Glamsterdam Brings 200M Gas Limit to Ethereum's Next Testnet
Glamsterdam combines several major protocol changes, including enshrined proposer-builder separation, block-level access lists and revised gas accounting.
The 200-million gas limit represents more than three times the approximately 60-million level used before the recent testnet upgrade. In practical terms, higher limits could allow Ethereum to accommodate more transaction execution within each block, provided validators can process the additional workload efficiently.

The upgrade also introduces changes designed to improve how clients access blockchain state and validate transactions. Block-level access lists could enable more parallel processing, while new gas rules account more accurately for resource-intensive operations.
Those changes build on Ethereum's earlier 200M gas testing, which examined whether Layer-1 capacity could increase without placing excessive demands on network operators.
However, increasing capacity does not automatically raise ETH's price. Greater efficiency could reduce transaction costs, while the effect on Ethereum's fee revenue and token burning will depend on actual network usage.
Ethereum Price Prediction: Can ETH Reclaim $2,500?
Ethereum's price structure has weakened considerably since the beginning of October.
ETH approached $2,726 on October 5 before declining toward $2,400 in recent sessions. The cryptocurrency is now attempting to stabilize around that psychological level after losing the $2,500 support zone previously highlighted during its October selloff.
A sustained move above $2,445–$2,485 would improve the immediate recovery outlook, with $2,500 representing the next psychological barrier. If buyers reclaim that level, the $2,560–$2,600 region becomes the next upside objective.
Conversely, a sustained breakdown below $2,400 could expose ETH to another decline toward $2,350, followed by $2,300 if selling accelerates.
The current setup is notably weaker than the previous Glamsterdam price outlook, when ETH traded near $2,680 and bulls were targeting $2,800.
Could Glamsterdam Support Ethereum's Recovery?
The October 26 deployment provides a concrete technological milestone, but its immediate market impact remains uncertain.
A successful Hoodi activation would move Glamsterdam closer to mainnet deployment, potentially reinforcing confidence in Ethereum's scaling roadmap. However, delays, compatibility problems or disappointing network performance could reduce enthusiasm.
For ETH holders, the immediate price test remains $2,400 support versus a potential recovery through $2,500 toward $2,600. Glamsterdam strengthens Ethereum's longer-term development narrative, but a sustained price recovery will still require stronger market demand.
