Ethereum(ETH) futures leverage on Binance held near 0.65 this week, even as Purpose Investments locked 42,000 ETH into long-term staking.
Key Points:
- Binance's estimated leverage ratio for Ether sat near 0.65 while funding rates stayed close to neutral.
- Purpose Investments deposited 42,000 Ether, worth about $80 million, into the Beacon Chain contract.
- A wallet funded by an Ethereum Foundation grant shifted 578.38 Ether into new multisignature custody.
Binance Leverage Ratio Holds Below Its March Peak
CryptoQuant figures showed the estimated leverage ratio for Ether on Binance sitting close to 0.65 on Aug. 5, at a point when funding rates on the same venue hovered near zero.
The ratio divides open interest across derivatives by the volume of Ether parked in the exchange's reserves. A higher reading therefore means a larger stack of futures exposure resting on a thinner base of collateral.
Funding near zero carries a separate signal, because neither longs nor shorts are paying a meaningful premium to keep their positions open overnight. Leverage accumulates without a clear directional lean, which leaves crowded books on both sides of the trade rather than one obvious loser.
Ether traded near $1,870 for six consecutive sessions, capped by a 100-day simple moving average that sat close to $1,920 and floored by support running along $1,850, a level that has repeatedly halted declines. The daily RSI stood near 52, with volume thinner than during the June selloff. Momentum sits mid-range.

Purpose Investments Stakes 42,000 Ether
Toronto-based Purpose Investments, Canada's largest crypto exchange-traded fund manager, staked 42,000 Ether worth roughly $80 million into the Beacon Chain deposit contract over a three-hour window. The deposit accounts for 36.6% of the firm's 114,900 Ether position.
Staked coins lock into validator duty and cannot be sold on short notice. Leveraged futures unwind in seconds. The two flows describe sharply different time horizons for holders of the same underlying asset, and only one of them can answer a margin call when prices move against the position.
Ethereum Foundation Grant Wallet Shifts Custody
A wallet funded by an Ethereum Foundation grant moved 578.38 Ether, about $1.08 million, into a newly created Gnosis Safe multisignature wallet, alongside a far smaller deposit of 2.675 Ether to Kraken.
Transfers into multisignature custody usually point to internal treasury housekeeping rather than preparation for a sale, and the exchange-bound portion came to roughly $5,070.
Binance leverage has swung hard through 2026 rather than climbing in one direction, which complicates any reading of the current figure as an outright extreme.
The ratio peaked near 0.751 in March, a level analysts at the time tied to sharply elevated liquidation risk across the wider market. It then slid to roughly 0.57 by early May before recovering toward where it trades today, leaving the current reading comfortably inside its range for the year.
